I tried to pick the most controversial recent presidential terms.

Edit: Anything else probably would have made more sense than 2004...but it's too late with polls.

Even though I like Gore the least of any of these losing candidates, I'll say 2000 given the implications of the next four/eight years under Bush.

This plus changing 2008 would be pointless with McCain so 2000.

Of the options, the 2000 election but 1968 is what I would change of all American elections.

1980. Reagan paved the way for the modern GOP.

2008 held some promise for the future of the US

2012 was the disaster

Wouldn't changing the results of 2000 make Al Gore lose?

I said 1976, only because I would remove the Parkinson's that Udall discovered in 1979 as well as having a Republican (probably Ford) win. I think that given another 4 years of Ford, Udall could be well-placed to win in 1980.

1980.  No Reagan, no Bush dynasty, GOP remains sane for an extra twenty years.

1972 is a running up election, McGovern would've been an awesome president.

flipping 2008 almost certainly leads to democratic dominance throughout the 2010s (and very possibly a 2/3 senate majority), so i'll go with that.

Surprised no Republicans have jumped on 2004, given you guys would've gotten a reverse 2006 and 2008.

1968, but out of these certainly 2000.

The cynic in me thought of changing 1976 to set Ford up to fail.

I'm guessing your reason for a Ford victory in '76 would be to stop the rightward drift of both major parties?

Me? If I had to pick, probably '76. Not in the poll options:  1964
