The lyrics are absolute garbage and should perish in hell, but the tune's pretty good, but yeah, the lyrics just ruin it. Though maybe I'm not getting the gangsta and thugness of Pat f**king Monahan.

Lyrics and tune are garbage...

I have to admit you're right, Snowstalker.

The tune is great, the lyrics are mediocre.

Still anything that can squeeze in references to cheesy 1980's game shows

Cheesy 1980's Pop Rock bands like Mister Mister (Which may or may not have been inspiration for Train, the band that first performed this song)

And Madonna's most racy single "Like A Virgin" gets prominent mention as well.

All this makes Hey, Soul Sister to me a good, but not great song....

I feel like it's mildly racially insensitive.

A terrible song with a horribly annoying melody, very irritating vocals, and incredibly stupid lyrics ("so gangsta, I'm so thug"). Easily one of the worst songs of the past 10 years. Glad to see I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Yes, and I'm willing to stick out my neck and break out the '(normal)' on this one.

No.  The music isn't anything special but it's not worse than any of the other thousands of songs that sound the same.  I've heard it dozens of times or more and I've managed to not pay any attention to the lyrics.  It's harmless really and unremarkable.

I listened to it at an age where one is vulnerable to such culture, and thusly I have an irrational fondness for it.

To be honest I had never really noticed/cared about the lyrics apart from the chorus. The lyrics are pretty bad at some points but the tune makes up for it in a way. I never really liked the song but it isn't particularly catchy, so I tend to ignore it. Not great but not particularly bad either, definitely not one of the worst songs ever.

I once read a theory that the song is about necrophilia, but I can't find it anywhere.

Disagree, it's a good song.

I read somewhere once that it was the most played song on American Radio in 2010.

"Party Rock Anthem" was far, far worse. What a piece of garbage.

I liked "Blurred Lines" a bit at first but once I really thought about the lyrics, now I hate it.

Don't think I've listened to the whole song. This makes me happy.

I preferred it when Bill Clinton covered it (Kind of).

I remember liking it when I was around 15 because it reminded me of my first crush.

Jesus Christ 15-year-old Sawx was a clusterf**K. Neckbeardness and sage don't mix well at all.

Pretty banal yeah.

I'll admit I have a soft spot for Drive By though. Particularly when he compares his love to a rubbish bag. And then the narrator apparently finds this metaphor romantic enough to earn a spot in the chorus.

Now that's lyricism.
