'56 and '96 are obvious picks. It's not just the final results, it was also the fact they were never close. 2012 ended up being not especially close at the end, but in real time the Republicans had a good shot. Of course, decades later, no-one will remember what it was like at the time, so it'll probably join them.

The 2012 Republican primary was pretty memorable, though. I don't think that'll matter a ton, though.

'56, '88 (although it could have been a lot more entertaining, what with Dukakis leading by 18 points in the summer of '88 and all), '96, '00 would have been if not for Bush stealing the election

1976 and 1988 are not forgotten. These are the two elections which had the biggest number of threads here in the Atlas Forum.

2012 was not as bad as 1956 and 1996 because at least in 2012 the winner was not known in the eve.
