Who do you think will get the GOP nomination in Minnesota, and do they have any chance against Mark Dayton?

My gut says Kurt Zellers gets the nod and then gets (electorally speaking) violently dismembered by Dayton.

Dayton was leading all the Republicans by 15-20 points. Likely D regardless of which is nominated.

This.

He has been a fantastic Governor, from the budget, to the economy, to education and more.

That sounds like safe D to me.

Basically, you know how Scott Walker has been terrible as governor? How unemployment is still terrible, how he hasn't created even half of the jobs he promised? How he's under investigation and far-right social legislation flourishes in Wisconsin's legislature?

Think the reverse of that. Dayton's Minnesota is doing as well as Walker's Wisconsin is doing badly.

We even have a budget surplus now, which means that Dayton and the DFL are working for middle class tax cuts. And it also means the "OMG WE NEED TO CUT EVERYTHING!" GOPers have egg on their faces and are completely untrusted.

As for his opponent well Marty Seifert won the straw poll at the caucus but only with 28%. Dave Thompson was right behind with 26%. Despite being perhaps the biggest name Zellers pulled off only an embarrassing 8%. So likely either Seifert or Thompson...neither one is notable or interesting, basically just very bland generic Republican.

Do you actually have any evidence about that WI unemployment claim that isn't a Burke for Governor ad?

Anyway, as already stated, this race is Safe D.

PolitiFact doesn't even rate that statement as a lie. Notice that he said, "by 2015."  Granted, it's unlikely that he'll be able to fully meet the promised total by 2015, but it's pretty disingenuous to call unemployment "terrible."

FWIW I'm actually a little disappointed all elections this year will be boring. Similar to the title of the Washington megathread.

He has high approvals. He should win fairly solidly in the upper 50's.

Is it possible Dayton gets 59-61% in November due to weak Republican competition?

Tim Pawlenty could have ran again for governor against Gov. Dayton; he could have won, but he's somehow very unpopular
there.

As another comparison here are the unemployment numbers for the two states and their neighbors from Mar 2014:

ND 2.6%
SD 3.7%
IA 4.5%
MN 4.8%
WI 5.9%
MI 7.5%
IL 8.4%

Yes MN has lower unemployment, but I see both MN and WI having unemployment numbers in the middle of the pack for their region.
