That and the obvious issues that the Germans had already surrendered by the time the A-bomb was ready (the H-bomb did not exist until 1952).

I don't get it, is it saying that we should've bombed the Germans? Since that would be even more awful.

So much of a badass that he rejected basic historical knowledge?

The matter of historical facts aside, as many people noted, is there anyone here who doesn't think Roosevelt - or Truman after him - would have ordered use of atomic bombs in Germany if the war had been going poorly up until that point? Leaders of that era did not have a clear grasp of the dangers posed by nuclear fallout and at the time were fine with loss of civilian life. As in the case of Japan, German was bombarded quite heavily, including at times with incendiary ordinance. There was plenty of racism back then but I seriously doubt it would have played a factor in deciding who got to be on the receiving end of nuclear weapons.

Indeed, the only reason Japan got nuked was because they refused to surrender, once the Atomic Bomb was ready to be deployed. Nazi Germany would have been nuked too, if similar circumstances applied.

Speaking of this topic, is anyone else here annoyed about how Japanese people like to act all butthurt and pretend they didn't do anything to deserve it?

Culturally speaking Japan more or less "got away" with WWII and it's utterly annoying. And to think they wonder why the Chinese still hate them so much.

That's a major and lasting subject of political and cultural debate within Japan, you know.

Yes, but that doesn't make the whitewashing and denial any less annoying.

I'm just saying that saying 'Japanese people like to act' is a little totalizing, in this context.

The point of shock statements like these is to point out the underlying racial component of the pacific war. I recommend War Without Mercy: Race and Power in the Pacific War for an academic perspective on the issue.

That would have literally been beating a dead horse with an atomic bomb.

The Japanese did have a lot of racially dehumanization directed against them.  It's hard to image that didn't make it easier to drop the atomic bombs on them.   But Germans weren't necessarily immune from racist attacks either, merely by being thought of as white during peacetime.  In WWI a poster proclaimed "Huns Kill Women and Children" -  I don't know whether it is significant that they chose a people with origins in the orient (Central Asia) to describe the Germans, but in any case I think it speaks to a racial othering.

Pretty sure no one dropped an "H" bomb on Japan.

This. So much this. Innocent people in Japan suffered and were killed, but that was first and foremost the fault of the Japanese leadership for starting the war in the first place and not surrendering once it became obvious they had lost.
