The Feds have lunched a criminal probe into a Quinn Administration anti-violence program centered on Chicago. They allege that that the program operated as a "political slush fund".

http://politics.suntimes.com/article/springfield/exclusive-prosecutors-subpoena-quinns-anti-violence-program/tue-04292014-520pm

This is on top of his already low approval ratings and his recent controversial comments comparing Black Republicans to Jewish Nazi collaborators. Things can't really get worse for Quinn can they? Then again this is Illinois so will this really hurt him?

No wonder he ended up on a ticket with Rod " I'm selling a Senate seat to Oprah Winfrey" Blagojevich.

They're both crooks, and they both say very stupid things.

Also is too early to speculate about a Christie/Quinn ticket (or vice-versa)?

I don't know what it is about Illinois Democratic governors, but the feds sure love trying to get them on trumped up charges.

Clearly stating that you are trying to sell the President-elect's Senate seat during the course of an investigation is not a "trumped up charge".

Hilarious. I always thought "well at least Quinn won't add to IL Governor criminal streak"... and here we are.

Maybe he'll resign and we can run someone else since this isn't New York.

I feel like stuff like this should upset me, being a Democrat and all.  But I find Quinn's constant troubles hilarious.  I could still see him surviving, though.

The timing on this is very convenient for Rauner.

Seeing Brownback and Quinn defeated on Election Night would demonstrate that partisan identity is not enough for a win in two extremely-partisan states (Illinois and Kansas).

I pray that he steps aside and lets Dems nominate someone else. He's not damaged goods, he's goods that have been doused in gasoline, set on fire, put out with a fire extinguisher, fed to a shark, then shat out.

The Democrats should run Scott Cohen.

Rauner can't do too much damage with a D legislature, Madigan may destroy him anyways he may end up as unpopular as Quinn.

George Ryan is also a convicted criminal. It's purely an Illinois Governor thing, not Illinois Democratic Governor thing.

He will probably start out as unpopular as Quinn or just above there. He is not well-liked (like most Republicans here minus Mark Kirk, who we all love) and the only reason he has a shot is because Quinn is equally disliked.

Puts on Best Sean Connery Impersonation: "Welcome to Chicago, this town stinks like a..." Wink

Its the culture of the city, that dominates county, which in turn dominates the state. It also goes back probably a century.

Quinn's ego will not let him drop out of the 2014 election for Illinois Governor.

If he did drop out, that's gonna guarantee Rauner the governorship on a platter (see David Palmer dropping out of the Presidential race in 24, handing Keeler the election).

It's that machine politics- the D machine forced other candidates out.

Anyway, lean R.

It's because of the mentality that seems to be in the Democratic party that if we have a competitive primary, we'll lose, in spite of all indications being the otherwise.
