It's pretty simple, I'm lowering taxes on fuel, as that effects all of us. Now I'm wondering about revenues [it will decline by some, but I'm not sure how much], because that maybe a concern in this decision, but I thought some budgetary conversation might be interesting.

Eww, do we use the metric system? I hadn't actually noticed that before.

I'm going to offer an amendment to my bill:

I've come to the realization that dropping it to 0.06 may dent revenues a bit too much. Lowering it to 0.07 instead to see whether or not we can get this through.

I don't have any objections - we're running a surplus, IIRC, though our budgeting process is so out of whack I'm not sure if we are or not.

We bring in about $17 billion from the gas tax, while our reported surplus is $0.4 billion. We need to figure out how much the Scott housing bill saves us before we can entertain any type of revenue cut.

We still need a specific idea of how this will affect the deficit.

The smallest possible cost estimate I can come up with has us losing $1.175 Billion, which puts us in deficit.

Here's where I stand on it now.  While I don't necessarily oppose tax cuts in principle, I am unwilling to sign anything that will put us in a budget deficit.  We should at least discuss appropriate spending cuts and make the bill revenue neutral.

Maxwell, do you have any ideas on how you'd want to put the budget back in balance?

Is that $587.5 million each or $587.5 million combined?

Do we have any official numbers on how this bill affects our deficit, yet?  I'd like to know before I decide how to act on this.

In a PM, Dereich said that after talking with the GM, the numbers I have come up with make sense, and thus the cuts I make will turn this into a revenue neutral bill.

I quite agree. Legislators have 48 hours to vote aye, nay or to abstain.

Aye, as this bill has addressed all of the concerns that have been brought up.

I really don't like the idea of reducing taxes with unspecified cuts, but as summer is when gas prices are highest and relief would be most opportune I guess I end up saying AYE.

With four ayes and one legislator not voting this bill passes the legislature of the Imperial Dominion of the South and is sent to the Emperor for signature or veto.
