Well, I was saddened to see the last bill being defeated. I would love the Althing to pass the Hate Crime Part, but if we don't have the votes, we don't have the votes.

I would most certainly vote for this, though I might want to add on this (I numbered it section 4, presumably the last section would become #5:

I would also be cool with adding on a hate crimes clause, though I cannot speak for my colleagues.

I would have voted Aye, but I do have a few additions to make to this. (Changes to already bold parts are in italics).

Your edits look fine to me; I do have an issue with this though:

I would prefer to protect the WBC's right to free speech, even though they are despicable.

Sol's amendment has been passed.

Now, I call a 24-hour vote on Adam's amendment. Now Sol, if Adam's amendment passes, we'll vote on your proposed elimination of Section 2, Subsection 4.

Aye!

Though we most certainly should eliminate that section. Tongue

Aye! (I was hoping that section could pass this time ever since revising that from evicting them to "cautioning" them, but I'll be fine with the bill if that section is eliminated).

With a 2-to-1 vote, Adam's amendment passes!

I now call a 24-hour vote on Sol's amendment that would eliminate Section 2, Subsection 4.

I seriously believe the love of Americans for free speech is disgusting.
No one should be able to disturb a private funeral.

If I recall correctly, Sol, you're gay, aren't you?
You would like the Westboro Church to be able to disturb your own funeral? Seriously?

I wouldn't like them to, and I am a big fan of their various counter-protesters, but I believe that we shouldn't regulate speech based on how morally depraved it is. Once we start regulating unpopular speech, it opens up a slippery slope to regulating other forms.

You know, in France, you have stricter law regarding freedom of speech, and that doesn't mean we're a fascist country,...

Of course. But freedom of speech is still very important- I hold few values higher.

Yes, and freedom of speech will be respected. But is ending homophobia something important too?

I don't understand Americans seriously. The few people who could have problems with that are horrible homophobic, nazis,...

So basically y'all waited for Brewer to leave so you could pass something we rejected earlier.

At least remove the compromise part of the title if we are going to be honest.

That's not true. I  reintroduced this bill the 4th April 2014. Brewer resigned the 8th April 2014. I was saddened to see this bill being defeated. So I reintroduced this bill without the "Hate Crime Legislation".
But Brewer resigned and Sol was appointed, and then elected. Yes, Sol isn't Brewer, and if right now we have the votes to pass this bill with the Hate Crime Legislation part, let pass this bill with this part.
I have made literally nothing behind the scenes in order to pass this bill. The Althing is just now willing to pass this bill with the Hate Crime Legislation Part.

And yes, don't worry, if this bill passed without changing the name, I would have used my first redraft to change this name. This isn't a Brewer-Cris-Adam compromise anymore, you're right on this point.

The revised bill already has Sol's name replaced with Brewer's and besides, Brewer's resignation was incredibly unexpected and the bill before that happened had been proposed again without the hate crime section in there. If the federal government won't take action on hate crimes, then the Midwest has to even if it means reintroducing the same bill that the Althing rejected. LGBT people deserve to be protected from discrimination.
