What I've always heard from conservative people is that it's just more profitable and easier than working a job. I've heard many such people claim that the homeless make a lot of tax free money panhandling.

It's isn't entirely untrue that some are homeless by choice, and there are some that panhandle, but aren't homeless at all.

Seriously, you think EVERY homeless person in America is there because they are mentally ill or are just down on their luck?  That seems like a really stupid position to take (especially if you have access to Google), but whatever.
