Welcome to Atlasia!

The Republic of Atlasia National Flag.

Atlasia is a political/governmental simulation wherein participants take part in elections and referenda which shape the nature and laws of the nation. Atlasia operates as a federal state with five regions. The federal government has three branches: executive (President and Cabinet); legislative (Senate); and judicial (Supreme Court). Elections to the Presidency, Senate, and regional offices are held at regular intervals.

Citizens of each region can participate in the regional government either as elected representatives such as the Governor or simply as proposers of legislation at the regional level. Each region has developed their own constitutions which set out their system of government. Below is an image of each region and the states they contain.*

*Puerto Rico is a state in the Republic of Atlasia and is placed in the Southeast Region.

Parties.

Numerous parties exist in Atlasia encompassing a wide range of ideological positions. Many parties have a leadership, organize a platform and put forward and endorse candidates for elections. A brief summary of the ideology of the major parties is provided in the post below. There are also numerous Independents in Atlasia who act outside of any party structure.

Alternatively, if you do not see a Party that you find yourself on common ground with, why not start one on your own? There are no special measures one needs to go through to accomplish this, simply open a thread, hammer out an ideology and get recruiting!

Registration.

Registration requirements have changed as of the passage of the last Constitutional Amendment.

To join Atlasia, you must register in the Registration Thread located here. Simply state your name, the party you wish to register with, and preferred state of residence in that order. You may register in anyone of the 50 real life states, 10 Canadian Provinces, three Canadian territories, Oceania, D.C., and Puerto Rico. Here's an example:

In order to register, you must have a total post count on the forum of 18 and your account must be at least 7 days old.

You may only change your state of registration when moving to another region every 180 days but you may change your party at anytime and your state registration may be changed when moving within the same region at any time (once every 24 hours).Your initial registration is not considered a "move", you may change regions one time in less than 180 days from your initial registration if you so choose.

Board Organization.

When first joining, occasionally some of you may be confused as to what the different boards are. The board structure looks something like this (as of July 2nd, 2014):

Atlas Fantasy Elections is the most important board and the board you will most likely end up spending most of your time on. It covers all miscellaneous chat between citizens, who post threads such as political party headquarters, conventions, newspapers, offices for politicians, and so on. Feel free to introduce yourself here in this thread, or create a thread introducing yourself on your own. Grin

Child Board: The Voting Booth is where Governors and the Secretary of Federal Elections open up voting booths for citizens to vote on important matters relating to national or regional offices and ballot initiatives.

Atlas Fantasy Government is where the government's business is done. The White House, some miscellaneous offices, and court cases are all handled here, but most of all: Senate business. It's advised you don't post here unless you're personally championing an issue, or to ask a Senator to propose a bill to the Senate on your behalf, as it's rather impolite to interrupt the Senate's work.

Child Board: The Constitutional Convention board is a temporary board that debate the changing of Atlasia's system of government. It is now a defunct board.

Child Board: The Regional Governments board is a recently instituted board that allows regional governments to gather in one centralized location to do their business unencumbered by other unrelated threads. Regions centralized their legislatures and executive offices here to do their business quietly and more efficiently.

Law & Regional Governments.

Some of you may wonder where you can find some more detailed information about Atlasia. As for laws, the Statute on the Wiki provides a long list of every law ever passed by the Senate.

Depending on where you take residence, you will have your own Regional Constitution:

Atlasian Political Parties.

Below are a list of the five major political parties in Atlasia, party logos (if available), party summaries (provided by the individual Chairmen), as well as other miscellaneous information. Hopefully this will serve as an easy way for newcomers to Atlasia to learn more about those involved in the process, and have an easier time to join others like them!

LABOR PARTY
50 Members

Chairman: TNF

Government is at its core function arising out of society in order to mediate between different groups within the society and is given the power to ensure, ideally, that no part of society is in a position of absolute dominance over the others. Inevitably, however, human error will enter into the system and unbalance this mediation of forces and interests that creates society and culture. Egalitarianism in the form of redistributive justice is an attempt to correct for this human error. The human error's name is susceptibility to tribalism and greed.

The cornerstone of the Labor Party is the worker.  The plight of the worker is the plight of everyday life, and it is the duty of government to treat working people with the dignity and respect that their position deserves.  The enemy of the worker is the enemy of the Labor Party and it is the enemy of the overflowing pure hearts of the people; this is namely: immeasurable greed.  Greed is the basis of unregulated capitalism and the pursuit of profit over the advancement of liberty, health, and equality, is its battle cry.  Thus, it is the mission of the Labor Party to fight back the monstrous blitzkrieg of robber barons, and champion the cause of the worker.

FEDERALIST PARTY
45 Members

Chairman: North Carolina Yankee

The Federalist Party believes that individuals, not the government, can make the best decisions. We stand for a federalist system of government built on strong checks and balances to protect people from tyranny. We therefore stand for the rights of regions, and oppose attempts by the federal government to infringe on their rights. We stand for reforms that strengthen and revitalize regions, as well as the game as a whole. We believe that all individuals are equal and entitled to equal rights, with a government strong enough to protect freedom, but too weak to jeopardize it. We stand for market based economic approaches to promote general prosperity and, in conjuction with policies to strengthen hard working families and improve education, address societal ills, like pressing economic inequalities. The Federalist Party stands for an Atlasia that welcomes participants, both new and old, and values their contributions to the game.

THE PEOPLE'S PARTY
26 Members

Chairman: Oakvale

The People's Party is the party of The People. We support ideas that incorporate compromise and pragmatism. We oppose attempts by the federal government to infringe on the rights of our regions, and will be a fighter in Atlasia for regional rights.

While The People recognize the need for the federal government and applaud many of the things it is needed for - collecting taxes, bolstering infrastructure, protecting individual liberties through the courts and congress - The People first and foremost encourage regional level thinking. With strong regional governments comes a strong game with competition uniform throughout. With more light shed on The People in the lowest level of this nation, that beacon will shine more brightly on the hill of hills. The lowly legislature election will be as contested as a Senate election. Unknown Mideast Legislature can have his name in The People's Paper for writing that bill. Friends, I am not asking you to join a party today, I am asking you to make an alliance with The People, and to know that no matter where you are now, you matter to Us. Our arms are open for you. Let's turn a new page in this game together.

DEMOCRATIC-REPUBLICAN PARTY
10 Members

Chairman: Dallasfan

The Democratic-Republicans believe that individual liberty is sacrosanct. We recognize that the government plays a vital role in everybody’s lives, and can be a positive good. That being said, we also understand that there is a limiting principle to government intervention, and resolve to trim areas of bureaucratic excess. We do not support paradigms dividing society into makers and takers, but respect people of all classes and seek greater opportunity for the poor.

TRANSCENDENTAL DEMOCRATS
7 Members

Chairman: Gully

1. The Transcendental Democrats support the creation of a New Commonwealth in which all shall rise to their own true stature and to their own true potential. The cornerstone of the New Commonwealth will be the eternal ideals of Liberty, Fraternity and Equality.

2. The Transcendental Democrats support short-term measures to move Atlasian society in the direction of Transcendence and the New Commonwealth. This includes a movement towards urgent economic realism: no longer shall regional and federal governments get away with claiming that their reckless and catastrophic economic management has resulted in anything other than disaster.

3. The Transcendental Democrats support the building of a New Economy strong enough to form the foundations of a New Society. The Party supports the creation of an extensive and effective welfare state, special measures to save vulnerable local economies, and tax cuts for job creators.

Two minor corrections: it's "Labor Party", not "Labor party", and you have "Below are a list of the four major political parties in Atlasia" but five are listed.

I propose the section on registration be revised as follows:

You may only change your state of registration when moving to another region every 180 days but you may change your party at anytime and your state registration may be changed when moving within the same region once a month at any time (once every 24 hours). After your initial registration, you are allowed to make one "free move" to anywhere, which does not count under the 180 days rule during the first week, however, after this you are not allowed to move for the required time. Your initial registration is not considered a "move", you may change regions one time in less than 180 days from your initial registration if you so choose.

Thanks for doing this, Flo!

The listed dates of the upcoming August and October Senate elections are incorrect. The August Senate election will be held August 22-24, and the October election will be held on October 24-26.

What's the minimum membership a party should have to be considered "major"? That said, I wonder if the Bad Party will ever be included here xD

It is 3 people (not counting the Liberal Party).  The Bad Party is, technically, a "major party" now.
