Obvious choice is obvious.

Oddly enough the one with the lowest percentage of the audience being female (though not as bad as most would think, it'd be at least 40%) would have the highest percentage of attractive females.

Option 3. Can't stand the other two.

Sure is.  Glad to see that a plurality of voters so far agree that Option 2 is the best option.

Apparently this forum has many Bushies who are afraid of physical activity and go with one that involves sitting in a chair for hours.

Also being a young in Brooklyn I've always had a tough time understanding how you don't like the same music as me. Tongue

I love my opera.  If I couldn't go to that however, I would pick option 2.

In the absence of context, the third one, but as a theater kid I'd like to attend something where I personally knew one of the entertainers -- whatever it is, for me it makes it that much more impressive. Voted for the third one.

I'm not sure if you've ever been to operas, but I can assure you that quite a number of females still tend to dress up to the nines for that occasion and some can be very attractive.

I did enjoy punk concerts a while ago, I broke my glasses there more than I can count, but now that I'm ageing I'd rather get moved to tears or to joy with Rossini or Verdi.

I've been to a few post-hardcore shows, and it's even worse than listening to the stuff in the privacy of your own home.  An orchestral concert, hands down.

It depends on what's playing. If it is some soporific cute melody Mozart piece, or a long opera with no distinguished music, and the rock group offers up a hot beat with which to gyrate, then the rock groups gets the nod.

An orchestral concert, and I've gone to a few.

People whine about the neighborhood (classist swine) that the Mann Center in Philadelphia is located in, but it's really a nice venue and the view from the hilltop is breathtaking.  Philly is not my favorite city, but this is a must-visit if you are in the area.

Just a point. In which of these do the people in attendance appear to be enjoying it the most?

Option 1
Option 2
Option 3

Again, obvious answer is obvious.

Agreed. Option 1.

While the audience in Option 3 is clearly enjoying themselves, that's the problem. Tongue They are there to enjoy themselves, not enjoy the music.  Their enjoyment doesn't depend much, if at all, upon the quality of the music or its performance and hence while their enjoyment is real and strong it isn't enjoyment of the music.

As for Option 2, An Alpine Symphony is a tour de force of the tone pone genre and one that anyone who enjoys classical music should listen to at least once as an uninterrupted whole.  Yet, while an important work, it isn't a piece one listens to for ecstatic enjoyment.

Option 1 is thus the best, tho if one were to pick a snippet of Phantom, it would be better from a regular performance than as part of the cheesy 25th Anniversary variety show performance.

With what you've said about my opinions on music in the past I'm rather surprised.

I'm far less antipathetic towards your music than your monomanical, sub-genre labeling obsessed, overly hipster trolling on the subject. Tongue I'm not foolish enough to miss the link between the Beatles and most modern music genres, nor do I cluelessly miss the impact Missisippi delta blues had on---well, everything.

Huge Flogging Molly, Social Distortion, and Dropkick Murphys fan here. Not quite the genre you described, but closeish.

Besides, a classical music concert sounds like a cure for insomnia, and opera likely a road to seppuku.

If the opera is anything composed by Rossini, then probably that.
