To answer your question on if the GOP will ever win statewide offices again in California, from the words of Adrienne Ballion: HELL NOOOOO !

I honestly doubt it due to the left-wing political climate and racial make-up in the state. Even if Hugo Chavez came back from the death and ran as a Democrat in California, he would end up winning handily.

We're not that Democratic. Arnold wasn't the only Republican to win statewide by double digits in 2006.

Who are the moderate/liberal or at least not too conservative Republicans in California? We not in the state know Darrell Issa and... well that's about it for the Republican side.

Meg Whittman should of won. Once the GOP blew that gimmie, it probably is over for a long time.

I guess Condolezza Rice kind of counts... right?

The last real Republican to win a statewide election in California was Tom McClintock in 2002. Before that, it was Pete Wilson in 1994, a man I despise for his racist re-election campaign based on anti-immigrant hysteria.

Eventually sure, "ever" implies the rest of history.

The GOP bench there is decimated there are very few viable candidates for the GOP to look to. Maybe David Faulconer or some random state legislator but there's no Brian Sandoval or Susana Martinez in waiting for the GOP wherever their in power in the state it's deep red areas and the politicians are too conservative for the state.

In 2002, the CA GOP was SWEPT out of all statewide offices.

Wesley won the Controller's race.

LOL, Issa isn't moderate. Steve Poziner was the other winner in 2006. Abel Maldonado was running for governor until he realized that he didn't have a chance. And that's with our top 2 system, which was designed to help moderate Republicans, and is in place thanks to him specifically.

Don't worry... Texas will be blue soon.

Unlike the Cali Repub party, Texas Dems have a path to win coming up; it's called the demographic shift.

I meant all we see is conservatives like Issa.

When Orange County is on the brink of going from red to blue, you know the GOP has big, big issues in CA.

Pete Wilson's immigration reform really was the backbreaker though and considering the growth in the Hispanic/Asian population in CA, particularly in Los Angeles, forget about it.

With a scandal or a really bad economy, sure.

But then again, the same can be said of Democrats in Idaho.

The history books will be scrutinizing Pete Wilson's governorship as big ego, taking advantage of fears of swing voters.

LOL! Still scratching my head how there was randomly that one Dem elected to the House for a single term from Idaho's 1st district.

Difference is that Wilson's scare tactics successfully worked.
