" Vietnam said on Wednesday a Chinese vessel intentionally rammed two of its ships in a part of the disputed South China Sea where Beijing has deployed a giant oil rig, sending tensions spiraling in the region.

The foreign ministry in Hanoi said the collisions took place on Sunday and caused considerable damage to the Vietnamese ships. Six people sustained minor injuries, it said."

I guess this whole national sovereignty thing is counting for less and less.

China and Vietnam have been at war for 1,000 years. This specific incident is part of Obama's "Asian Pivot" to contain China/expand American influence in the Pacific.

Good. The lack of Realpolitik on behalf of the West has made our enemies stronger.

How did Obama get the PRC/PLA to ram a Vietnamese boat?

How do you dare contesting the purity and goodwill of the Blessed General Secretary of the True Workers Government! They are obviously right because they oppose Vietnam, the puppet of the evil dictator and King, Barrack Hussain Oblama of the United Bourgeois States.

Obama is personally steering Chinese boats into Vietnamese boats, good to know.

Compared to 1979, this is downright friendly.

North Vietnam was allies with the Soviets during the Cold War. They were just as worried about China as America and after the Vietnam War China was their main national security threat. Vietnam and China even went to war in 1979, never mind the Vietnamese intervention against Chinese-backed Cambodia under Pol Pot.

Vietnamese and Chinese communist governments are fairly nationalistic.
Correlation does not imply causation.

Of course, America's worry about China varied inversely with Vietnamese worry about China. The Sino-Vietnamese war was started right after Deng Xiaoping visited the U.S. He told Jimmy Carter, 'I'm going to attack the Vietnamese' and Carter was like 'Okay'

Communism is inherently opposed to nationalism (unless "nationalism" is defined solely as a region's self-determination).

Also, I again reiterate that China and Vietnam have been at war for over a millennium. That doesn't go away quickly.

That communism has however never existed in a meaningful manner, all communist states have been essentially nationalist states.
