This debate was nasty, petty, pathetic and totally bereft of any discussion of actual state issues.

It wouldn't surprise me at all of a lot of the loser's supporters either undervote and leave the LG spot blank on the ballot, or vote for Robert Butler, the Libertarian nominee.

Both Dewhurst and Patrick are launching non-stop negative attack TV ads against each other as we're getting closer to May 27th.

Patrick is doing his best imitation of Pete Wilson.

I cringe every time I hear Dan Patrick use the phrase "black and brown people." It's like he doesn't even bother trying to mask the vitriol and contempt.

Here are my tweets from watching it. (I like to live-tweet things)

Watching the Dewhurst/Patrick debate from this morning. Because I hate myself, I guess.

Me: watching Dewhurst/Patrick debate
Dewhurst/Patrick: interrupting each other, shouting
Me: "Just kiss already!"

"You knowingly knew" - David Dewhurst

David Dewhurst, yes, the Dew, just pounded the table and declared "equal pay for equal work." He just repeated it. With hand gestures.

But Dan Patrick, he says he just trusts business owners to do the right thing. So we have a lot to work with here.

Now we're on school choice, a phrase and legislative idea I hate so much that I can't think of something funny to say.

wow #artrave looks pretty cool

Now we're talking about Wendy Davis. Patrick thinks it will cost Abbott another $20 million to beat her.

He mentions this like it's just an errand that Abbott has to go out and do.

Abbott will be saying to himself, "How in the bleep did I get with this piece of crap (Patrick) ?"

They're gonna wish George P. Bush had ran for LG.

Let me be clear again: Patrick is one scandal away from the Texas Governor's Mansion: that is very SCARY !

I'm just saying if something crazy happens to Abbott like a major corruption scandal in his administration or indictments, Patrick would take advantage of the situation.

Makes sense, but personally Abbott doesn't seem like the type to resign over a corruption scandal. At least not unless he's convicted of something.

Even though we don't have term limits, the custom has always been no more than two terms (or no more than 6-8 years back when we had two-year terms). Rick Perry parted with this custom, but that's only because his broke @$$ has never had a real career or any money of his own and he wants to mooch off the fringe benefits of this job for as long as possible. Greg Abbott could never work another day of his life and be just fine, so that's not an issue for him.

The custom was for an incumbent to be defeated in their attempt for re-election.

Someone's gonna break Perry's 14-year record sooner or later.

The old custom is STUPID. I didn't see Pataki and Daddy Cuomo backing away from 3rd terms in NY St.

Greg Abbott could potentially serve as Texas governor until the 2030s if his health remains decent enough.

Patrick internal poll shows 50-36 lead.

Assuming against Dewhurst, an internal means he's within several points and has a shot to beat Patrick. Though the smart money is still on the latter.

Dewhurst has got to find a clear path of victory on May 27th. Apparently the recent TV attack ads aren't moving voters to his side so far.

Patrick is hammering the "12 years is enough" mantra, coding that Dewhurst has been LG too long.

Anybody wanna place bets that he invokes the film title "12 Years a Slave" with this line of attack?

Comparing a rich white guy working at a government-funded job to a black man held against his will, abused and forced to endure unpaid, grueling physical labor while separated from his family?

Yeah, that actually does sound like something a Republican would do.

Patrick keeps referring to the term, "Black and Brown people."
