I s'pose I must object to this amendment.
The language in the second part of it
Seems to defeat the purpose of the bill.

Why do you say that? I think I've realised that abolishing lame duck terms entirely is impossible given the current senate and the regions, but this amendment would still reduce the lame duck term by a week, but in a form that could pass.

take office as soon as the result of the election has been formally declared. on the last Friday of the election month.

Does this not increase the time spent in lame-duckery?

From my original bill yes, but it's an improvement on the current constitution.

What's wrong with being a lame duck? I can't wait until I'm one. Plus, the incoming President needs time to form a cabinet, and let me tell you, that is the worst part about this job. It takes far too long to form one and keeping it together and active is nearly impossible without a lot of luck.

Before we do are there any problems or contigencies that need to be considered. I am thinking with regards to December for instance? That last Friday is going to be somewhere between Christmas and New Years and also the lection is earlier that monthi f I am not mistaken.

Well, the election is scheduled for December 11-14, and the President would end up taking office in December 26, with twelve days of lame duck period. Perhaps we should push the election back a week to keep it in line with the proposal?

Good catch, is this OK?

Presidential elections don't happen in December, so that bit doesn't need altering.

Once concern, what date does the third Friday fall on?

How would it effect the election of a PPT and the start of the Senate in general if it would run over th course of Christmas?

The latest the third friday in december could possibly ever be is the 21st, but that would only happen roughly once every 7 years.

Okay, that should be fine then. That leaves at minimum three days to get started. My only concerns is that Christmas would kill the starting momentum of the Senate.

Yes. I think it's simpler and more uniform that way, and it's worth the possibilty of a slightly slower start every 7 years.
