Yes, to me Delaware is just an extension of Maryland's eastern shore. If this would be done, Maryland would have 11/12 EV's instead of 10, 6.7+ Million in population (2010), and a minimal effect on politics and elections.

No,

For one while geographically DE shares alot in common with MD's eastern shore, the state's culture and politics are very different. Culturally, Delaware shares much more in common with New Jersey and Pennsylvania then it does Maryland. If it had to be merged with any other state I would say ether of those two.

While Delaware(at least until recently) was much more Republican on the state/local level then Maryland.

No, but I do think the Delamerian peninsula should be all one state.  It would create a swing state, but it also give's dems a chance to win another congressional district.

Delaware's three counties seceded from Pennsylvania during the Revolutionary War so they could keep slavery alive there, and to add insult to injury they deliberately moved up their date of constitutional ratification so that they would be the first ratifier rather than PA. My animosity is justified.

Only if North Dakota and South Dakota are combined as well. Even then I don't know if I would favor it. Just combine North Dakota and South Dakota.

Sure, why not?

Democrats lose two Senate seats that way.

Delmarva is what it's known as.  A part of me likes your idea, but the Old Dominion really must retain the Lower Eastern Shore to retain such treasures as Tangier and Chincoteague.

Doing that doesn't make much sense. It's a lot more logical to add DE to PA, considering that Wilmington and associated areas are basically a continuation of metro Philly.

For me the highest priorities would be:

1. Split NorCal from SoCal
2. Split Texas East/West roughly along I-35, but making sure to include DFW metro area in West Texas.
3. Split Florida North/South, including Orlando and Tampa in the North so that both states have at least 10 CDs
4. Split NYC, Westchester and Long Island from Upstate NY

To maintain 50 states in total:

1. Combine ID, MT and WY
2. Single state of Dakota
3. Combine NH and VT

It works out fairly evenly in political terms, too:

CA split: D+2EV
TX split: R+2EV (Dallas into West TX keeps both states quite safe)
FL split: from swing state to ~17 EV lean D state and ~14 EV lean R state
NY split: Republicans would contest ~12 EV Upstate NY
ID+WY+MT: R-4EV (but populist Dem state/local strength in MT is drowned out)
Single state of Dakota: R-2 EV (but see above and replace MT with ND)
VT+NH: D-2EV

Indeed. Delaware Colony was legally a region of the Province of Pennsylvania. In 1701 it gained a separate Assembly but still shared the same Governor with Pennsylvania.

Give Delaware's northern county to Pennsylvania and the lower two to Maryland.  Boom, everyone's happy and the nation's own tiny tax haven/tollbooth vanishes.

A couple weeks ago I was at a rest stop in Delaware and I saw a sign that read "DELAWARE: CONVENIENTLY LOCATED ON INTERSTATE 95". It thought it really summed up Delaware's existence.

We could certainly do that as well

How about Wyoming and Montana? Idaho and Wyoming would look terribly awkward.  Wyoming + Montana would have a population similar to Idaho anyway.

Combine Kansas, Nebraska, South and North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming and you'll have a state with about the same population as Washington.

I was going to suggest this as well. It would make PA more Democratic and MD more Republican. It would also slow PA's Congressional seat loss and give it a bit of coastline (depending on your definition of the word).

But cynicism aside I'm sure New Castle would rather be with PA.
