Christian Democracy has been one of the three main pillars of antifascism both in France and in Italy. Also, though he didn't consider himself right-wing, De Gaulle ended up embodying the French right 13 years after the liberation.

OTOH, tho', during the 1930s and '40s Christian Democracy was more in the centre, if not centre-left of European politics rather than being the main conservative tendency on the Continent.
