What does "plant genetic resources" mean? Does this have something to do with GMO's?

They may be doing it, but that doesn't make it unethical.

Probably, just with crops and plants apparently.

I think this one is supposed to test your gut reaction to the phrase "Multinational companies". It doesn't really matter what any of the rest of the question says.

Firstly, this, as this is one of the Political Compass' more egregious trick questions. As to the actual question itself, abominably phrased as it is, I would obviously strongly disagree.

For some reason I swore this question was "Multinational companies are unethically exploiting the planet's natural resources" or something like that. I guess I fail at reading... Anyway, disagree, I think...

The question should be "What aren't they unethically exploiting?"

There is a debate over companies and researchers patenting compounds derived from plants, sometimes called "bio-prospecting." Sometimes the uses of these plants are derived at least in part from traditional knowledge in those places, and so there are questions about compensation and community involvement vs exploitation.   It's a tricky issue, trying to respect and appreciate the communities that are the source of the traditional knowledge, while at the same time allowing the possibility for research based on this knowledge.  Have their been unethical activities in this regard?  Sure. Agreed then I suppose.  On the other hand figuring out what would be the most ethical practices toward this research in any given context isn't always so easy.
