Have any of you read anything by Icelandic Nobel prize winner Halldor Laxness? I am in the process of getting through his main works and enjoy his dry, subtle wit, characters and lyrical descriptions. Also Under the Glacier is one of the most flippant and funny booksI have read. A true 68 story.

Apparently some of Laxness books (especially Independent People) sold pretty good in the US, before he was effectively blacklisted in 1948.

Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

I've heard a lot about Laxness and would really like to read some of his work, but never have.
