The minimum debate time has expired, I can start a vote if debate ceases for 24 hours and a motion has been offered to go to a vote or I will need to call UC.

I think that combined with the cost and ideological predisposition, this is probably going to be a love it or hate it type thing. So if there are amendments to be offered, I suggest speaking up within the next 24 hours. Wink

I ask unanimous consent to waive the cloture requirement and proceed immediately to a final vote.

Unlike Sen. Lumine, I believe the government has a vested interest in the reduction of unemployment and that this interest is worth spending a few hundred billion dollars, though I don't think anyone around here is going to change their mind on this any time soon.

Seriously? I could spend quite a good amount of time attacking the Senator for that use of language (parasites?), but I feel I have to ask to the Senate as whole: Are we really going to spend almost 500 billion on this? Our entire budget is like 3.500 billion, and we are already spending 1.000 Billion in the Health Care mess alone.

I for one am not willing to destroy the banking system and sacrifice our economy for the sake of such an impractical bill.

What else would you call people who do nothing but profit from the labor of others?

I object.

Why are you objecting? This just gets your bill to a vote faster, and I highly doubt you (or any of us, but especially you because you're a bit toxic) will be able to convince the rightists (or Cincy and Duke for that matter, though I'm not sure how they feel about this).

Perfectly all right, but you should probably withdraw that before Yankee sees you.

The intent is clear, his objection is withdrawn.

How stupid of me not to call the 24 hours myself. Tongue

I could have started this in 30 minutes if I had.

Good thing I am usually on Saturday Mornings.

We really need an assessment of how much in expenditures we've added to our budget since Nix left office. It seems like lately we've been throwing around tens and hundreds of billions of dollars in additional annual expenditures like it's candy. Sooner or later, we're going to run out of idle capital to tax.

I support this, but if the goal is full employment at $40,000 per year per person, then we need to go back through some elements of our social safety net, eliminate those and use it to pay for this. After all, if people can obtain employment with a living wage, there'd be a whole hell of a lot less need for some elements of our safety net.

Seeing no objection, the rules are suspended.

A Final vote is now open on the underlying legislation, Senators please vote Aye, Nay or Abstain.

I would be hessitant to dispense with safety net because there are some people who cannot work and they could be adversely effecting by switching that out for this.

I would prefer to expand the Nixcome in exchange for reductions in the safety net and in lieu of further minimum wage hikes. We could then remove some of the more job restricting policies and hopefully increase employment and reduce dependence through that as well as through education and other policies.

This is something I plan do do research into in the next week or so.

Nay Cry

Sorry, but something of this magnitude needs more debate, more budget analysis and more...well, everything.

Again, even if it caused a deficit, that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing, given that the Pacific still has presumably double-digit unemployment. This bill would reduce unemployment to 3 percent everywhere, and would give us plenty of revenue (from the jobs and economic activity it would create) to allow us to pay the initial costs.

I think my pocket abstention on this bill is a reasonable reflection of my thoughts on the issue. I don't think that an employment mandate is a perfect solution to the Pacific unemployment problem.
