President Donnelly would be handily renominated (though not without a small but not-insignificant fight from Tom Watson, choosing the equally populist and equally intellectual Wharton Barker as his running mate in a move that surprised many but was seen as a political attempt to win Pennsylvania or something like that, and the two are campaigning across the country (but mainly in the Populist homelands of the West and Midwest) for various Populist principles, the two most-emphasized being nationalization of the banks and direct election of Senators.

The Whig convention was quite a bit more interesting, with the progressives and the conservatives squaring off in the fiercest political battle since the Merger Wars of the '80s and '90s. Standard-bearers McKinley and Roosevelt were deadlocked after several ballots, and finally Henry Adams offered his lonely delegates to the former in a desperate attempt to stay relevant that would be funny if it weren't so sad. Grumbling about "progressivism" and "I'll make my own party dammit and then I'll show you I'll show you all", Roosevelt stormed off the convention floor in a huff and took his ball with him, too. Ignoring that little display of indignation and perceived betrayal, McKinley and Adams are now also touring the nation, badmouthing our dear President and everything he stands for and calling for more fiscally conservative policies to rein in what McKinley has called "the most colossal waste of money since Henry Clay built that gold-plated statue of himself and taxed people to look at it."

Stay tuned for more as this story develops, and there will be quite a bit more...

Protip: it's Barker. I ran into quite a few problems when I kept getting no results for "Representative Wharton Baker" in the convention writing, and I wouldn't like the same to happen to y'all.

Bump. I'd also like to note that, as the runners of the series, Malcolm and I will have to remove one (1) vote from the left-wing party for which I assume both of us voted. If we both are on the record as voting for different candidates, that will be something we'll have to work out, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Did you mean in the event of a tie or in general?

By the way, I've got part of a write-up for the 1904 conventions on my other computer, but I don't feel like retyping it and I don't have Microsoft Word on the one I'm on, so that'll be up on Monday night at the latest.
