Or does this go into FC? I don't care. If so, move it.

Anyways, I was thinking of giving

2 points per correct tendency (win/draw/lose)
1 point per exact goal difference - not available in drawn games
1 point each for getting one side's # of goals right (so even if you think they'll win 1-0 and they get thrashed 1-4 you get a point!)
making 4-5 points for nailing the result in the group stage.

Tips in before game starts, of course.

No special "predict the world cup winner early and your suck at getting exact results won't matter much" bonus.

For the knockout stage, these rules require slight modifications:
We'll be predicting the score after 90 minutes, plus who'll advance in case that we predict a draw.
1 point per tendency (win/draw/loss)
1 point for getting the advancing team right
1 point per goal difference (not available in drawn games)
1 point each per team's scores
Still a total of up to 5.

And here comes the part I'm still very much open to suggestions on: The knockout stage provides only 1/4 of the games overall - should it be given higher weight? Say, double points? Double for the sweet 16 and triple after that? Or is that a bad idea?

Welcome back Lewis! This would probably go in off-topic or FC (since it's not really of a political nature) but regardless I'm very much interested in playing this year.

I'm torn on the idea of weighing knockout games, though I'm sure it can be implemented well.

Yeah, these threads have usually been in Forum Community. I'll be signing up though!

Knockout games should be given double points. It doesn't really make sense (it's not any harder to predict those than the group stage matches), but it makes the game more exciting I think.

I admit to knowing almost about Football (or Soccer here in the U.S), but that won't stop me from attempting to play (and horribly losing of course).

Welcome back, good to see you claiming your prize Smiley

Scoring structure works. I like double points for all knockout games (not increasing to three times, four times etc.) and also scrapping the winner prediction points.

Welcome back!

Keen though my soccer/football knowledge isn't great (though probably better than the Yanks who aren't Phil or Lief).

Good idea, I'll make some tips later.

Wink

PS: Can anyone move this to Off-Topic board, where all the football-related threads are ?
