The lawsuit business has prevented the seating of one Assemblyman. We have 2 seated. I'd like to see us move forward with business. So, I would like to press the Assembly to elect a Speaker.

We really need to elect a Speaker in order to progress with this. Ah well, hopefully our last Assembly member should be seated by tommorrow.

Technically, Cassius would have go through a confirmation hearing before officially becoming a senator, as has been the case in the past. That should all be done once we get our Speaker.

I have checked, there isn't any any Mideast senate vacancy law.
So, the Governor has the only power to appoint a new senator, according to the federal constitution.

I petition the Assembly to rescind the appointment of Cassius to the Senate and decide for themselves who will represent our region. I believe Riley's decision was not in the regions best interest.

No, there's a provision. I'm on my phone now, so I can't get it, but it's there.

My apologies.
I understand why I found nothing. I searched in the Mideast laws passed by the Mideast.
So Sorry.

Very well. I look forward to answering any questions you may have for me.

We normally have a separate confirmation thread that is typically started by the Speaker. Since there is no speaker at the moment, and I know of no law forbidding me to do so, I will open a thread for your confirmation to try and speed up the process in the interests of ensuring representation of our region in the Atlasian Senate.

I stand corrected. It will have to wait.

That will make things interesting because it also requires us to have a speaker chosen by 9:30 AM tomorrow morning in order to open that thread.

What happens if the speaker is not chosen in time? Is Cassius confirmed by default? That's something of a loophole in our constitution: we have a time limit but no clarification on what happens if the time limit expires without action taking place.

Just a reminder to the Assembly that a budget has to be passed first.

So this is interesting. Assuming that Cassius is no longer an Assemblyman since he already did the swearing in as a Senator, Riley will need to appoint somebody to fill his spot, and no confirmation is needed for that. In the meantime, we have to first elect a Speaker in order to get everything passed.

In any case, I'll go ahead and nominate myself for Speaker.

He's still an Assemblyman as his swearing in is not valid unless confirmed by the Assembly.

I believe that since my swearing in as Senator was constitutionally invalid, I still, for the moment, am a Mideast Assemblyman. Should I be wrong, I will of course stand aside for whoever the Governor wishes to appoint in my place. Just to let you know, if I am still an Assemblyman, I second your nomination for Speaker.

We'll need a second, Cassius. And an acceptance from Spiral, if he'd like to accept.
