Because obviously he knows more about Jesus than the Bishop of Rome.

This is nowhere near as nauseating as Bibi's response to the Brussels shooting.

I have a hard time believing that Jesus didn't know Hebrew, but yes, he probably spoke Aramaic in his daily life and travels.

Jesus, how is that an argument? Especially considering that they're both right.

Yep; as he was able to read a Talmud or Torah scroll, I would say both.

Jesus knows all the languages. He could also slam dunk from half court.

Why would Bibi care about Jesus anyway?

Seriously Bibi leads an anti-Christian country and is head of a rabidly anti-Christian party and coalition. Why would he care about Jesus?

Wasn't much of an argument.  But Bibi was pointing out Jesus' Jewish identity, and in his mind Hebrew is a signifier of that.   For Francis, it isn't an issue and Jesus and the Jews of his time aren't any less Jewish for speaking Aramaic.

The Pope also recognized Palestine as a state, and visited the Palestinians first.

The Pope also recognized Palestine as a state, and visited the Palestinians first.

The pope was travelling from east to west because he had been in Arabia before hand. And he visited the tomb of a major Zionist figure. So it wasn't such a full-fledged endorsement of Palestinian statehood as the media has made it out to be.

There's nothing mutually exclusive about visiting major Zionist figures and supporting Palestinian statehood.

I would literally pay to see Netanyahu debate this issue with Michele Bachmann.

Hilarity would ensue.

This is definitely overblown in the media.  Still, it's nice to see Bibi get put in his place.

Almost by definition he'd have to "speak" Hebrew enough to quote the scriptures as much as he did, but, to use an example relevant here, it'd be like saying that Francis speaks Latin while his birth language and primary language is Spanish.

Hebrew uses the same writing system as Aramaic, and there's some shared vocabulary and some grammar structure similarities (putting a v' sound before a word means "and," plurals end in -in similar to the Hebrew -im, etc.).

I have a hard time believing that Jesus didn't know Hebrew, but yes, he probably spoke Aramaic in his daily life and travels.

Yep; as he was able to read a Talmud or Torah scroll, I would say both.

The Talmud was written centuries after Jesus.

My mistake, I meant the Nevi'im; IIRC, it was Isaiah that Jesus read from.

Bachmann: Now look here, if English was good enough for Jesus Christ, it's good enough for the American people.
Bibi: ...Michele, you are aware the English language didn't exist at that time, no?
Bachmann: Well then why else would the Bible be written in English?

Not that I like to defend Netanyahu, but he's also correct, at least in his second sentence (the first one is incorrect, as Hebrew wasn't a spoken language at the time).
