Scott is that an amendment to the body of the platform? God I hope so, we have been stuck on the introductory statement for a long time. Tongue

I would prefer to replace the words "starting point" in your text to "hand up," if you're open to that.

Aye

And Scott, I think something along the lines of the Utah homelessness plan would be a good idea to implement, but I also think it might be too specific for a party platform. We haven't really done any other issue that sort of justice.

I agree, but one vague point about homelessness isn't that specific. I actually think it straddles the line well between giving specificity and flexibility in the platform. We just need to come up with more points like that on a range of issues and then group them into categories.

I'll fix the ing amendment tomorrow.  I can't even see and I'm going into a nervous breakdown.  I'm so sorry to ruin the convention.  I'm just letting you know I'm not done with the platform.r

You okay, Scott? Undecided

Cuz no one's angry here. I think it's a good idea to discuss items like this. It's what we need to be doing (and probably should've been doing 12 months ago).

Well if we are going to change that, the only way is one issue at a time. Tongue

Nay

We should be advocating more private ways to handle the issue of homeless rather than using the force of government. Don't get me wrong compassion to the poor is important but the role of government is to ensure liberty. There are folks who will think that this will intrude on their liberties.

I hallucinated last night.  Sorry.

Anyway, I would argue that we should adopt the amendment because it's a tad more specific.  Party platforms that consist of more rhetoric than substance are a pet peeve to me.  But, the amendment I proposed isn't even that specific in and of itself.

If that was actually the role of government there would be no government. How do you have liberty if the social system that a "freedom-loving" government has helped nurture keeps people at the bottom? I don't believe that it's government's job to give everyone everything they will ever need, but offering a hand up elevates Atlasia as a whole.

Also, we are not currently voting on the homelessness plank.

It appears that 24 is too short and 72 is too long obviously.

The previous vote is long past time, and I try get back on later tonight to close it. Next we will vote on the amendment proposed by our distinguished Emperor of the Imperial Dominion of the South. Unfortunately, I have to get off prematurely then that I expected and therefore, as much as I hate delaying this further.
