If elected as Iowa senator in 2014, what would be the downsides to Joni Ernst as a vice presidential choice other than potentially being a Palin/Bachmann 2.0?

Her political experience would be limited, with her senate and state senate career exactly half of what Obama had when he was elected President. That is unlikely to be a favorable comparison to Hillary Clinton or any of the other women considered potential Democratic party candidates for national office.

For all the comments about Palin/ Bachmann 2.0 it is worth noting there were a few differences between the two. Palin was seen as ignorant while Bachmann was seen as a shameless liar. Democrats will do what they can to make Ernst seem culturally alien to voters in Florida, Ohio, Colorado, Pennsylvania and Virginia. They'll also emphasize any problematic comments such as her belief in 2014 that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.

Who?  That's the downside.

What are the upsides to Joni Ernst as a GOP vice presidential choice? She's already Palin 2.0, except Palin actually won election, unlike Ernst, who is going to lose to Bruce Braley.

She has a history of saying crazy things. If she's elected to the Senate in 2014 and is considered for VP, these statements may haunt her.

I don't buy this argument. Palin was a complete unknown and provided a huge boost to the McCain campaign after he picked her. Her eventual problems are obvious to everyone, but as long as someone is properly vetted unlike Palin, I don't see much of an issue with it. It generates excitement as it is a name the base hasn't really heard of before.

Joni Ernst?

JONI ERNST??!??!??

Her infamy would lead to rioting in the streets. Cars would be torched, houses broken into, stock markets would collapse. It would be mayhem. Madness. Insanity! PANDEMONIUM!

We, the American People would never accept it.

Those are the downsides to Joni Ernst as a GOP vice presidential choice.

Even just thinking of the name "Joni Ernst" makes my skin crawl in horror. In horror!!

Joni Ernst...

Or, you know, people would just ask "who is Joni Ernst and why should I care?"

It looks like I may eat my words from earlier. Lol. Ernst still won't be the VP pick though.

The VP pick does not actually matter except if the nominee is a dumbass/gets into scandal.

I like speculation. But this is just crazy. She's not going to be on any major ticket (assuming she wins the U.S. Senate election later this year) until at least 2020 or 2024.

The first downside that I see with having Ernst as a running mate is that she wouldn't really add anything to a ticket that already has a conservative presidential nominee aside from her gender. Her WMD comments don't help either. Still, while she definitely has her downsides, Ernst is not toxic.

Its been on the record that she believes in the agenda 21 conspiracy. But anyway, she won't be on a national ticket, though if the tea party right wing props her up, she could be talked about.

If I'm not mistaken, opposition to Agenda 21 was on the 2012 Republican platform. Nevertheless, Ernst's position on that could hurt her a little bit with moderates if she somehow became the GOP running mate. Still, I wonder if the people who would care most about supporting Agenda 21 are the kinds that wouldn't vote for a Republican ticket anyhow.

If we're going to be talking about Joni Ernst, why not Christine O'Donnell too?

At least Ernst has a serious chance at being elected to the Senate, and it's not like she is a witch or anything Tongue

I wonder what Ernst on the ticket would look like for the electoral map in 2016.

The Republicans already tried giving Sarah Palin the VP slot, why would they do it again?

She'd make a good candidate for the Constitution Party.
