pre 9-11 - Bush is president because of a conservative Supreme Court ruling. The Democrats have the senate back and are 4 seats away in the house. It seems that the parties are near parity and with a strong economy, post-cold war peace and "an end of history", the parties will be fairly moderate and elections will generally be back forth.

2005- Bush won reelection and congress by a small but reassuring margin despite a weaker economy and an unpopular war because Post 9/11 nationalism and fear that another 9/11 is just around the corner, the rapid growth and innovation of the Religious Right and Karl Rove and his "just enough" outreach to immigrants and minorities is why we keep electing very conservative republicans.   Also, its very easy to get a loan right now so must people think they are much better off than they really are.

2013- The excesses of the Bush years and all the kids that turned 13/18/21 during that time are more liberal than their parents and older cousins. That, and the fact that old white racist men and their wives keep nominating maniacal Republicans that like to talk about rape is why we have universal healthcare, gay marriage and a black president.

I think the pendulum will swing back and forth. One thing that IS very surprising in this politicized atmosphere is the lack of one term Presidents. Between the Clinton "scandals", the Bush "scandals" and Obama "scandals", the best the opposition could come up with was Bob Dole, John Kerry and Mitt Romney.

This is what I have been trying to get across for some time now. Despite all the scandals, war and recession, we haven't had a one-term president or a presidential resignation(including refusing to run when still eligible) for 21 years now. Last time that happened was with Jefferson, Madison, Monroe.

Its rare that you have a perfect pendulum like this. This state of affairs could go on for decades or could be broken overnight. More likely, something in between.

Sadly, I can see in ten years the NRA being supported by Democrats (that already weren't supportive before) and some crazy conservative gun group being supported by Republicans.

2021 - Remember how equal the distribution of wealth was under President Obama? We need to go back to that!

It's disappointing how bitter politics has become. I remember back in the day President Obama (now there was a moderate who knew how to work with Republicans) and John Boehner would put aside their differences and have a game of golf.

But they have been apparently had since the 90s to do what they are doing.

The fact is enough of the children born into Quiverfull leave the faith as adults that a lot of the demographic gains are cancelled out.

With luck, we can triumph permanently over the Chinese, even if it is at that heavy cost of they all being fundamentalists.

I would go with this. But I still wonder if it was the goal of Quiverfill to over the world/country through sheer numbers.

In 2005, it was definitely a major theory that fundamentalists, between their outreach and demography would simply be able to flood the polls every year. Then again, it could have been that the country was in the grip of a war against terrorism and that simply was bigger than the reaction to it.

The current situation could be very similar. Where demography steals the thunder from a major national disaster and eventually there is another major national disaster and the reaction gets blamed on one group or one set of group being uppity and flooding the polls.

Conservative dominance on immigration reform and the Crts have ended thnx to Clinton and Obama. Ginnsberg, Kennedy and Scalia are replaced by liberal pragmatist.
