ipod.

i do not own a smartphone and do not want one.  they are hideous and cumbersome.  and for some reason 90% seem to have cracked screens, which make them even uglier.

iPod Touch. Which is sort of in between the two. But I listen to that while I'm out walking and playing Ingress on my smartphone.

ive no doubt that sooner or later apple, being the greediest of all corporations, will kill the ipod soon enough.

does that mean existing ipod owners will still be able to download stuff from itunes, or will we be forced to 'upgrade' to a smartphone?

Phone, since I don't need to carry two items with me when I leave the house.

Since I have neither ipod nor smartphone, nor do I want one, this poll has no option for me.  I'm quite happy with my cheap inexpensive dumbphone, and I'm not a music fanatic anyway.

Never had an ipod.  Never had a "smart" phone.  Don't know what Ingress is, except that it's something BRTD posts about frequently, and seems to be a substitute for having a life.

Anyway, I prefer to listen to stuff live.

If you have an iphone then having an ipod is a waste of money. I have all my cd's loaded onto my phone so like Oak said I have no need to carry around more objects than needed.

It's weird that some people either:
A.assume all mp3 players are called iPods
2.doesn't know what an mp3 player is

Basically this,  ut replace Ingress with brainless web browsing. I keep my phone in my right front pocket and ipod in the right rear pocket.

iPods were great before the iPhone. Now, I just find it easier to carry a smaller selection of music on my iPhone. The only real big advantage to the iPods were their massive hard drives. I used to love carrying my entire music library and considerable video on it. Apple is annoyingly stingy with storage right now.

I'm definitely upgrading to iPhone when contract allows, which unfortunately is not for another 11 or so months...til then I'm living it up in pleb city with my Android. I keep my ipod touch on me for music, but will probably give it to a fam member and maybe get a nano to downsize tbh...

I think the current generation of iPhones offer 16, 32 and 64. I think the iPod Touch's are the same. The old iPod Classics in their mid-to-later years were 30, 80, 120, and 160. I'm of the mindset that Apple should discontinue 16, start at 32 with current price-points, and make a new 128GB iPhone and iPod Touch.

It's weird that some people either:
A.assume all mp3 players are called iPods
2.doesn't know what an mp3 player is

We do have an ipod, come to think of it.  I got it in about 2003.  We used it regularly for a time, but it has been in a box collecting dust for at least five years so I'd forgotten about it.  It is definitely an mp3 player and it is definitely an iPod.  I recognize that not all mp3 players are iPods, by the way.  I just took it out of the basement and dusted it off.  It still works.  Mostly it has baby lullabies and Madonna and Sting, since we used it only for my son during his first four years of his life.   Anyway, now that I remember I have one I guess I'll vote iPod by default.

I'm certain about the smart phone, though.  I'm not entirely which phones count as "smart" phones, but I asked whether mine was and was told that it wasn't by the guy who gave it to me.  Apparently "smart" phones aren't free, and all the mobile phones I've ever had have been the free ones.  I do recognize that they're handy.  In my backpack today I had two digital cameras, a calculator, a flashlight, a pH meter, and my mobile phone.  I suppose if I had a "smart" phone it'd replace all those things.  Still, I can't imagine actually paying for a phone.  The big black ones always came free with Ma Bell's service in my youth, and even though I haven't had a landline in years, I still am glad companies respect the concept of the free phone.  Since they'll give you one for free when you sign up for service, I won't have a "smart" one until they start giving those away.

I don't listen to music when I'm walking around. If I'm at home I'll listen on my computer.

iPod, definitely.

I got my iPod in 2008, and my Galaxy in 2012. I take very good care of my belongings, so the iPod's still in great shape. I only put a little music on my phone, because I find it unweildy to enter my passcode everytime I want to change songs. The phone is also way too heavy to use when i workout/run/bike (pulls down the pants lolz). I usually keep the iPod for use in the car/gym/physical activity, and the phone is for internet/social media/texting/calling.
