I think that sort of thing is the best we can do.

A budget will have to be done this summer though. How would they be able to do that in such case?

Argh, a good question. It doesn't seem like there's a reliable source on the raw number of certain deductions. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place. I'll try again later, too.

Well we should try something I think?

a blanket percentage for those above a certain income maybe? Then, if you find out which income groups contribute what to the tax expenditure,s you can just reduce it by that percentage and DemPGH and comapny will have a much easier time inserting that in the budget.

Perhaps, but I'm having a hard time seeing why these deductions should be cut in the first place. I mean, I understand that simplifying the tax code is a worthy goal, but when we read through the deductions, my main response is "Wow, that should be there, that should be there, that should be there, that should be there..." So I'm not sure simplicity is really the answer here.

Yeah I am starting to agree with the folks here. While I feel that a 60% bracket is entirely too high, given Atlasia's current spending on all kinds of social welfare, I think it would be hard to cut them without severely hurting our budget. I don't remember if we were running a surplus on the last budget Nix prepared a year ago, but I can't imagine we still are.

I attempted to do for income taxes what we did for corporate taxes, but those are two totally different beasts. I am too tired and too preoccupied with other things to really dedicate much time to figuring out how to make this work. When you've been up since 8am studying and you're just now finishing 80 multiple choice problems at midnight, you just don't care anymore. Tongue

We lost the surplus even before I entered the Senate, iirc, since Nixcome was approved just after the budget was finalized.
