Reddit seems like it's composed of a bunch of angry libertarians butthurt about something only an MRA would complain about,  tumblr seems like it's composed of a bunch of angry liberals butthurt by something only an oversensitive marxist would complain about. Obviously the latter is better than the former.

Plenty have come out against white people "appropriating" other cultures (which means it's wrong to learn another language or eat foreign cuisine) and consider a white and a nonwhite dating, or a "cisgendered" and a transgendered person dating to inherently be rape. That reminds me of an argument on another forum several years ago:

You're bringing in white people walking around the neighborhood, getting drunk and wandering around, driving cars in with band bumper stickers and blaring such music out the windows, wearing band shirts, putting up flyers, it's a complete invasion of their neighborhood and culture. We need to accept that our music is an almost entirely white person thing and thus we need to quit invading other cultures with our's.

That's a very loose paraphrase obviously. Most of her posts were pretty nonsensical and so loaded with buzzwords they were virtually unintelligible and I don't mean in this thread only, I mean ALL of them. The other time she's known for was calling for a band to be boycotted for "degrading women" by including a picture of a decently attractive fully clothed woman on their latest album cover.

But of course as noted everyone hated this one person, considered her a f[inks]ing idiot and she was later ran off the forum and not representative of the people on it in any way. Same with anyone proposing similar views on Tumblr.

Is Reddit really libertarian? Most of them seem to support universal healthcare.

My main gripe with them is that despite their overall decent political views, they pretty much focus solely on the NSA/internet related issues. Not that those things aren't important, but it pretty much outweighs their focus on everything else combined, to the point where a politician who votes against the NSA but is otherwise far-right on everything else is an automatic FF, and vice versa. Of course, there's also the Men's Rights contingent which is horrible, but those are a pretty small minority.

From a usability perspective I find Reddit far superior. Easier to find things, easier to navigate in general, easier to have an actual back-and-forth.

Oh I don't doubt that you're not making it up, but Reddit is so cleanly divided into different sections that it seems weird to me to take issue with the overall site. It's like saying you wouldn't use the internet because there are pedophiles that exist somewhere on it.
