Jbrase, the minimum wage is a stop-gap policy. If the barest of needs for all were tended to and the authoritarian, coercive structure of most modern firms were toppled in favour of workplaces that are controlled by their producers there would be no real need for the state to impose arbitrary floors or ceilings to compensation. What we see today in the States is an inefficient, insufficient attempt to make capitalism "humane."

And rather than considering a ban on volunteerism we should be recognizing that volunteerism will never suffice to provide all members of society with meaningful opportunities to attain dignified living conditions, enjoy actionable freedoms that empower them to exercise a great measure of self-determination, or succeed in attaining long-term feelings of satisfaction in life.
