How would have former House Democratic leader Dick Gephardt have done if he ran for president a third time in 2008? Would he have won the nomination and the presidency?

He would drop out before the Iowa Caucus. After finishing fourth place in the caucus in 04, he basically just became a joke.

Dick Gephardt would have made a pretty good Secretary of Labor in my opinion.

If Gephardt won the nomination in 2008, he probably would only win Missouri and Iowa by a squeaker over John McCain.  Florida would have been a little closer, but still in McCain's column, Gephardt would have picked former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack, while McCain would have probably picked Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty over Sarah Palin.

With a McCain-Palin ticket, McCain might have lost even more (winning IN, NC, losing NV, NM, OH, AR, VA, FL) but Gephardt would have still been a lackluster, old-fashioned campaigner.

Gephardt probably drives Edwards out early, (which may or may not change the results in Iowa) but he doesn't change the Obama-Clinton dynamic (Only Al Gore and maybe John Kerry could have done that). He probably tops Clinton/Obama for second in Iowa, and loses the remaining states by progressively margins.

Unlike 2004, where he actually had a chance to be the nominee, here he's essentially battling for the Vice-Presidential nomination (and I can't see Obama picking him, as he would've immediately Clinton, whereas Biden remained neutral, which he had to hope Hillary Clinton became the nominee)
