Don't forget to send it to the PResident for executive action. Wink

I think you have state that before it can be removed from the floor.

This is a tough one! I'll take a little bit of time to mull it over. It looks like a lot of the objectionable stuff was edited out early on.

There are a lot of good points made. One is that recruiters prey on vulnerable young people - this is positively, absolutely true. However, I also recognize that it's possible to have a good combat-less career in the military. For instance, a relative of mine through marriage (only ever saw the guy like three times) was a poor country boy who - from the time he old enough to know what it entailed - wanted off the farm. He went to the A.F. right out of high school where he is now an officer, is trained in all kinds of technical fields, and I think is pursuing electrical engineering or something at the present. That's cool! But. . . the preying on minority kids and gullible, impressionable youngsters does absolutely happen. Recruiters also outright lie - they tell you what they think you want to hear.

I think school guidance counselors can handle questions about the military or get hold of information, no? Anyway, let me mull it over. At a minimum, information about the military should be available. Kicking them totally off campus is kind of the sticking point for me.

How about redrafting into a set of restrctins on the practices of recruiters. These people work for the military and we regulate the military entirely, there is no reason we cannot stop through legislation this "preying on whoever" through legislation without kicking them off of the campuses.

Since you're thinking about a redraft. And since the debates are over (Tongue)
Why not forcing the military recruiters to tell the truth?

I mean for instance, in France, on cigarette products, you have "Smoking kills xxx people every year."

Of course, not something like "Military people are horrible person."
But more something like: "By joining the army, you give your life to the nation. You can lose your life."

Do you understand my point?

Basically ban them from utilizing false advertisement and as well as clear statement of risks/sacrifices made clear prior to taking of any signatures of committment.

Okay, I'm ready to offer a redraft that hopefully takes aim at most of the addressable concerns. Recruiter shenanigans are pretty widely known, so curtailing them is the main concern, I think.

I also don't actually remember seeing military recruiters at my high school. It wasn't an elite high school, but it wasn't terrible either. Maybe I just never paid any attention.

I actually like most of the redraft, it has indeed reduced many of the parts I disliked about the original bill, and objetively speaking Section 1 is something that shouldn't be polemic (after all, people need to have a good deal of information before taking decisions). At this rate, my remaning problem here (and I guess it's not that big) is cutting the funds for television advertising by the armed forces.
