The chances of him running for Governor are doubtful when Republicans are likely eyeing the guy who nearly became Attorney General in 2013, Mark Obenshain. Even then if they don't and the VA GOP continues to refuse to have Bolling, there's plenty of other candidates much likelier to run before Cantor ever would like Randy Forbes, Robert Hurt or George Allen. He isn't going to throw himself in as the bait to Kaine, either.

I don't see him running for his old House seat, either considering he almost seemed unemotional and care-free in his final speech on the House floor as if though he considered it a privilege to get out of the House. His closing moments in the House involve clown car mania with Ted Cruz taking power over Boehner and Cantor and getting one of their bills to fail. He definitely would feel more valuable an asset as a lobbyist, but he's young enough to make a political comeback down the road.

He's resigning on August 18, 2014. I see him running for governor in 2017 or for Senate against Sen. Tim Kaine, who would be somewhat favored in that potential race.

I fear for my fellow Virginians if he runs In 2018. Two assholes that no-one actually likes fighting it out for Webb's old seat.

Word is that he's going to go into the financial industry and make loads of money though, so I guess that won't be happening.

I am highly certain Cantor is not going to run for anything in 2017 or 2018 (especially not United States Senate against Kaine).

It was announced today that Cantor will join an investment bank. He must have some expertise on that. I still see him running for Governor in 2017 against Gillespie in the GOP primaries or some other GOP capacity as well as this new job.

Gillespie vs Cantor?

Political Hack vs Wall Street Shill?

The Tea Party would be on that race like white on rice.

Eric Cantor showed that you don't need investment banking experience to land a $3.4 million gig investment banking. Of course this isn't a meritocracy and he's being bought for his connections, not his skills.

Yeah, when an ex-congressman becomes a company's Vice President of Government Affairs and announces they're "going to the private sector" it's quite laughable.

I think Phil Gramm may have had a "real" finance job at one point after he left the Senate; but then again he's a PhD economist.

I'd like to see a Where Are They Now on former members to see how many are also in lobbying or access-based positions like Cantor's.

You inspired me to make a blog that does just that. The first post is on Blanche Lincoln. Enjoy!

I can see him running for Governor. The party's bench is weak and he's a strong fundraiser.
