Is it? Sure, the common usage where there is a mandatory sentence after the third strike is atrocious, but I don't see why giving courts more discretion to give higher sentences on the third strike on a case-by-case basis is a bad thing unless you think that imprisoning people in general is a bad thing and something we should avoid.

I'm thinking there should be another bill on crime and punishment later in the session; I want to introduce a day fine plan and we could discuss this more then.

I've always been more in favor of longer, immutable punishments and won't support this amendment. I want to ask in advance that we have a vote on this, even if Maxwell considers it friendly.

We could always use the Florida system: a parole board made up of the Emperor and the Cabinet. If you wanted to adjust that for the IDS you could add the Speaker and the Judicial Overlord.

With Maxwell's permission I'm going to start a vote on the amendment in two hours if there is no more debate on it.

Well, as long as its decided by people and not by some objective system that danger will always exist. Since we trust the initial sentencing to a jury and judge who could have the same potential for abuse and discrimination, I don't think there would be much cause to treat this differently.

With 3 ayes and 1 nay the amendment is adopted.

Are there any more comments or amendments or are y'all ready to move to a final vote?
