The best time of my life was from March until November 2012. The worst was from November 2012 and hasn't really gotten much better since then.

Somehow, with ups and downs, my life has become gradually better. I mean, sure, I did have less sorrows and stress when I was 5, but I couldn't do really much either.
So, I'll go to say: 2013/2014

This doesn't have anything to do with the election, right? It seems like quite a coincidence.

Anyway...

It involves an election, but not the Presidential race. I made a lot of friends on a fairly high profile campaign and worked for nine months only to lose. Afterwards, everything went down hill.

Most favorite: 2009 (Pretty much everything just 'worked' for me that year.  No deaths, no major illnesses, I actually enjoyed the remainder of my middle school days and the first of my high school days, and it's the year I started to develop my own perspectives on life issues.)

Least favorite: 2013 (Dad's death.)

Which race was that, again?  You talked about it quite a lot during the campaign season, but I forget who you were working for.

See, the last eight years for me have been divided into semesters, and my chunks of good years and bad years kind of go from halfway through one year to halfway through the next.

September 2008 to August 2009 was pretty awful.
September 2009 to August 2010 was fantastic.
September 2010 to August 2011 was the worst year of my life.
September 2011 to December 2011 was pretty good.

Since then things have been pretty generally mediocre. Although I guess I maybe had a bit of a final hurrah for my last year of university (this last school year).

Tough to say. I usually use events that I'm interested in (elections, hurricanes, ect) and personal events (vacations, relationships, ect) as ways to judge a year.

2010 was rough. First three months in the U.S. Air Force, not being able to stay due to a previously unknown but benign heart defect. Then a vacation to Florida in May, more hooking up with girls than at any point before or since in my life, a girlfriend, a new job, an active but someone irrelevant hurricane season, then a Republican election year. However, the Air Force ending for me and my grandfather's death in October (we buried him on my 22nd birthday) were bad. But other than those two events, 2010 was actually not bad.

2011 I did nothing but work. Had one date with one girl the entire year. One trip to Florida in May. Other than that, nothing but work. Basically 2011 was work, Bin Laden is dead, Florida trip for a week, and then more work. I call 2011 the most irrelevant year of the decade thus far.

2012 was actually great. Got a new girlfriend on New Years Day, went on vacation to Vegas in August, new job in October when I turned 24 years old and on my birthday Mitt Romney was ahead of Obama by 10 pts in a national poll. Had a busy but irrelevant hurricane season (until Superstorm Sandy) and then come November everything just kinda deflated. Went through the holidays into 2013 working, got another girlfriend, went to my Uncle's funeral in NJ in April which was sad but also got to see Keystone Phil and Nixon Now which was nice. Then in August, another trip to Vegas, and then the holidays.

To be honest, much like Chairman Sanchez, pretty much things were looking up until November 2012. Perhaps IceSpear is onto something...

I'd say 2010 and 2012. 2011 and 2013 were kinda blah.

Favorite: 2002 - things were going well in general. School was good, I was attending play schemes and football tournaments (and winning trophies for my efforts), there was a good World Cup, went on a memorable three-day trip with my school class in the autumn, had good friendships etc.

Honorable mentions go to 2000 and 2004.

Least favorite: 2010 - Just awful. Thoroughly depressed, socially phobic, obese, did not leave the house throughout the entire year, despite the fact that I legally should have still been attending school - so obviously I had no real qualifications at that point (or friends, connections or job). My life was at a dead end. Also, the current dreadful government came to office that year and the Tea Party was at its height. Plus England had a dreadful World Cup. The only thing that kept me going was movies and music - prior to that time, I hadn't been that much into either.

Dishonorable mentions go to 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011.

The depression has made a minor comeback recently, but writing about 2010 has made me feel just that little bit more appreciative that things are not that bad.

I wouldn't really say that I've had a worst and a best year. All years have their ups and downs; their charms and their terrors; their hopes and fears. However, I would say that the years 2002-2007 really were Halcyon days, the glory of which can never be repeated in full. Since then, the years have just been average (I fully expect my life to spiral into a whirlpool of disappointment and boredom once I reach the age of about 22).

Worst: 2003, without a doubt. Even with something incredibly nasty happening to me at the end of 2012, and the after effects lingering into much of 2013, I can't imagine my life plummeting to the depths that was the abyss of 2003 (my final year of primary school, or Year 7).

Best: Either this year (everything in my life is rolling nicely), 2008 (senior year of high school, so many fond memories), or 2010 (second year of university). Gun to my head? 2008, simply as this year's not over yet.

It's weird that people only seem to be mentioning recent years.  I'll go by academic year.

Best: 2013-2014
Worst: 1999-2000

The only "sage words of advice" an older person gave me growing up that have really stuck with my were those of my AP US History teacher - always try to live your life such that every year is your new best year.  I feel pretty satisfied with my progress on that front Smiley
