(Quick note: I'm using the system proposed way back in '92 (I believe) where instead of having two separate elections for Prez and VP and therefore two votes, we have one vote for the ticket you want, thus eliminating the possibility of some nefarious creature voting for, say, La Follette and Underwood and not choosing a VP)

The election of 1912 was one of the most contentious in recent memory, largely due to the shocking rise of the BMP (who are strongly considering changing their name to something less Rooseveltian, as they have grown to view their founder as a traitor who can't stay with one party for more than a few years). With the rather popular Hiram Johnson stealing quite a few states from the FLP in the West and the progressive hero Robert La Follette blazing through the Midwest and Northeast, the election was thrown to the House as the Unionist vote tally was reduced to a mere third of the electorate and the FLP found itself in third, largely due to its Southern African-American base being heavily restricted from voting and its Southern white base flipping to the Populists - although that demographic group ended up being the party's only one, consigning them to merely a respectable fourth place. With Glass/Wilson completely out of the fray, the two have refused to endorse any candidate, stating that Underwood's anti-racist agenda was too much for them to handle; Governor Marshall has endorsed an Underwood/Johnson unity ticket, remarking that "what this country really needs is a unity ticket and a five-cent cigar". The policies the candidates have espoused are generally the same - Lodge advocating for fewer restrictions on business practices and reduced freedom for unions, Underwood supporting an all-out war against the KKK and a total ban on child labor, and La Follette supporting women's suffrage and vastly increased trust-busting (even verging on nationalization, though many are believing to think that the Donnelly Era was the high point for that particular idea - but hey, they could always be wrong). The Senate will be forced to choose between McKinley and Johnson, who are in support of the tops of their respective tickets.

(I might have more on McKinley and Johnson's positions later, but for now my Internet's crappy)

By the way, if no candidate gets a majority we'll move down to the final 2 (although a majority of the votes and a majority of the states may not be the same thing - Malcolm and I will cross that bridge when we've come to it).
