I thought this thing was over but apparently it isn't...

The latest poll for the WI gov race had it tied. This isn't going to help.

And if he loses the gov race (especially if it is tied to scandal) that's it for Scott.

While it remains to be seen if Walker is in serious legal trouble or not, it is 'true' that this is a political problem for Walker, at least in the short run. It is true that former staffers have been convicted of felonies and it is true that prosecutors believe that Walker was involved. That is plenty for some damaging TV spots and in a very close race, that could be enough.

You can't really "clean" your reputation after this, some of it will always stick. Same is true of Christie. He may never be indicted, but it is certain that some of his underlings and allies will be. So there will always be some guilt by association.

With Christie, this makes 2 Republican governors that we have found out are very corrupt while they're in office. Of course everyone knew Scott would be corrupt before he was even elected.

Actually it is 3. Don't forget ex VA gov and soon to be on trial Bob McDonnell, who got some 2012 buzz and even 2016 buzz before scandal hit.

Sounds very inside baseball to me.  That type of stuff has limited political implications.

You don't need to be on the inside to understand a commercial showing his former staffers being convicted of felonies and headlines about Walker and 'criminal scheme' along with droning music voicover guy saying "corruption"

Just like with Christie "I wasn't indicted" isn't a compelling bumpersticker. There is a whiff of scandal and corruption and bad headlines about convicted staffers and a 'criminal scheme' that is plenty to be used in a political ad.

If nothing else, the whiff of scandal around Walker should cost him a couple points in his race for gov, assuming the Burke campaign plays it right. And the election is already close so this could make the difference, and if he loses in Nov 2014 I dont think he will be in a position to announce a presidential run just a few months later.
