Recently, Atlasia has suffered from an incredible and unconscionable attack on the right of freedom of speech, perpetrated by a widely-respected governor who is now running for Vice-President. However, this governor is not (as Riley Keaton and his toadies would have you think) Midwest Governor windjammer, but Northeast Governor Dallasfan.

Yes, Governor Dallasfan recently proposed and signed the Northeast Recognition Omnibus, which contains the following passage:
Northeast Recognition Omnibus
Section 2:
2. Upon passage of this legislation, "Happy" by Pharrell is hereby banned in the Northeast.

Fellow Atlasians, this cannot stand. It is a clear violation of our Constitutional rights to freedom of speech and expression -- and a Governor who would knowingly push such an atrocious policy cannot be permitted to act out his madness on a national level.

I urge anyone who supports freedom of speech to join me at a protest in front of the Northeast Capitol in New York City as we blare this song loudly and proudly. There will be muffins.

I support this movement. Banning songs merely because they offend your sensibilities (For what? Being obnoxiously happy?) is incredibly reminiscent of police state behavior and must be stopped.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/banned

This is just ridiculous. Clearly, the purpose of this law was to place an ecclesiastical curse upon the song.

Plenty of songs are censored because of obscene content. I don't see how Happy doesn't rise to this level.

A hearing has been requested.

Amicus Briefs will be encouraged for if and when the Court takes up this important case.

"Obscene content"? I looked through the lyrics again and there's not one curse word throughout the song. Sure, you can insinuate that the lyrics imply vulgar things, but this song is fit for public entertainment. My local radio stations play this regularly and nobody has a major problem with it!

There's a lot of worse songs out there where it's nothing but banging drums and yelling out cuss words and other words you can't even hear it's so annoying. This song is by no means terrible and you're infringing on basic rights. You can somehow justify allowing little children to watch pornography, decriminalizing public urination, legalizing hempfests, or naming derogatory acts after me, but you have no problem censoring an okay song? That's terrible, Governor.

I actually like the song, but the problem is that since I first heard it in February/March, It reminds me of the death that occured in early March and it is thus marred by that event.

Having known Dallasfan a long time, I have a hard time believing he would ban anthing on the account of it being obscene (or anything period Tongue), and thus I have to assume he was being sarcastic when he said that.

I was speaking of the obscene justification not the bill itself. Tongue

I don't need to.  The Court has taken up plenty of cases requested by petitioners (i.e. Snowstalker and Simfan) who neither had standing nor lived in the region being affected by the law they're challenging.

Banning "Happy" was the right decision to make. I stand by Governor Dallasfan65, and call for Pharrell to be detained indefinitely at Guantanamo Bay prison for crimes against humanity. (i.e. the production of that song)

I am thoroughly disgusted by this bill. I hope the good people of the Northeast vote out the governor and and all of the representatives who voted for this piece of unconstitutional garbage.

Nitpick - this is a regional case, so you should be referring to the regional Constitution -

That said, I'm alarmed that people don't think banning Happy is legal. Whatever happened to government as a force for good? Sad

I'm pretty sure, the executive order renaming New York City "The Jewish Semi-Autonimous Protectorate of XXX-land County" is still in place Wink

Spare me the pearl-clutching. I've posted my reasonings in various threads.

Huh I haven't named anything after you.

Happy is problematic because it isn't lyrically obscene when it's only examined piecemeal. However, when you analyze the lyrics (and musical content) on the whole it becomes more apparent why Happy is obscene: in its repetition and lack of creativity. Happy is audible diarrhea and is not fit for Northeastern radio stations. The first part of this quote raises a more interesting question though: Are there certain songs that do rise to the level of being banned? RIP Cannibal Corpse.

I don't know if the onus is necessarily upon me, but I will be glad to defend this case in court. I am a patriot, and will fight this good fight for the sake of my countrymen.

That said, I'm alarmed that people don't think banning Happy is legal. Whatever happened to government as a force for good? Sad

The Regional Police will be out in full force to shut down your little civil disobedience party and throw all you scallywags and ne'er-do-wells into the hoosegow.

Long live music censorship!
