No, but we could have and should have taken a lot more of it in 1848 when we had the chance.

Why? More slave plantations for your fellow D-MS's?

On an unrelated note, it would be nice to visit Baja California without the threat of cartel violence, which they wouldn't be having if they were part of the United States.

They also would not have the problem of cartel violence were it not for the fact that they border the United States.

Exactly; hence why Baja California would be fairly "deep" in the USA compared to the Mexican border in a world where we took more from Mexico than we already did.

It would be better for everybody in the long run, but I understand why people on both sides wouldn't want to.

I assume you are aware of how unsuitable the land would be for plantation/slavery?

No, I wish the U.S. had done it because the area would be a lot better today if it were a part of the U.S. instead of run by drug cartels.

I wouldn't be opposed to parts of northern Mexico joining the U.S.

The whole thing might be logistically difficult.

Not at this time.  The cultural and economic differences between us are too great right now for any merger to be a happy one.
