Option 2. Though it lasted a bit beyond college, I quit around 25.

No. My roommates did that with our living room for a while and I always thought it looked trashy. I didn't throw a fit though; it just wasn't worth fighting about.

No.

Making a liquor bottle lamp would be cool though.

No, but there was a time my freshman year when I did that with water bottles because I didn't have any good way to dispose of them.

At my uni the only people who did that were fratboy tools. Its a different era brah. Hence, this quote:

No. Never really identified with stereotypical hyper-masculine dumbassery.

Everyone (both guys and girls) did this in college; I think we were #3 on the party school list in 2013.

Never had a chance to do it, given (1) room layout--both freshman year and now, (2) the beer bottles are worth more to me when I return them for ten cents a piece at the grocery store, (3) alcohol containers of any kind were banned from my building, so when Residence Life came a'knocking because it smelled like pot on my floor--I wasn't the one smoking--it wouldn't be wise to be seen with all that crap. I never really aspired to do it, but now that we're talking about it, such might be a good idea if I'm able to retain a room in the House in the fall (long story). Our chapter's president in the 2013 fall semester did it in his dorm room, in large part due to his obsession with picking up obscure beer; they were all different types.

Not really, no.

No. Never really identified with stereotypical hyper-masculine dumbassery.

What's hyper-masculine about such a thing? Not that it is a sample size indicative of anything other than my own personal experience but I knew a few houses occupied by females that did such a thing.

The only thing it really identifies is an individual who likes to drink, for better or worse.

Yeah, that's our household too.  We have some booze bottles as decoration, but they're all like fancy ciders and Belgians and stuff, not Natty Lite.

No, but I remember going nearly a month after one party without either of my roommates cleaning up the mountains of beer cans in our kitchen (and elsewhere).

I haven't had roommates since then and would seriously consider living out of my car if I couldn't afford to rent my own place.

The circle could be squared, so to speak, by using their beer can deposit money to afford your own place, since apparently they don't know the real value of an empty metal can or glass bottle. I'm aware that NY's deposit isn't as big as Michigan's, but it could still be pulled off, I'm sure.

The same reason humans do a lot of stupid things.....they think it makes them look cool...and it probably does to other people that do it too.
