Petition to demod Inks

Given the recent decisions which have been made in regards to the forum, led by a certain clique without much consultation with even the most regular forummers, I think it is time we consider yet the issue of forum administration. Namely that a lot of these decisions have, I and many others believe, been detrimental to the interests of the forum and the quality of the postings. There are many that can be listed here but I just mention the returning of Libertas and Einzige (as 'Rakkaus' and 'Meursault'), the laughable reaction to Opebo-gate, their inconsistency in modding 'profanity' and other matters that are meant to keep with this forums' reputation as 'family friendly' (lol) and extreme liberality taken with some other members of the board despite their constant violations of the ToS. This is only the start, one could continue in this vain for a long time.

The persona which, I and others believe, is most responsible for this sad state affairs is a certain individual from Michigan who carries a blue avatar. This petition should not be understood as a personal attack per se, so much as a protest against his leading role in administrating the forum and a need to reconsider where we are. For this reason, I and others believe, it would be for the best that he be removed of his mod duties - at least temporarily - before any further planning for the future of Atlas Forum can commence.

I can understand criticism of Inks's moderation style, but I have no idea why you think that particular list of grievances owes to him.  You think Inks is the most influential moderator?  Lol.

I think this is something virtually all members of the forum can agree on at this point. Moderation policy has just been disastrous recently.

All the decisions on who to ban or unban are ultimately made by Dave or Nym.  Dave banned opebo.  Nym unbanned Einzige.  Complain about those decisions to them.  Sure, other mods discuss this stuff with them and influence their decisions, but Inks is no more influential on that score than about a half dozen other people.

Other complaints in Gully's petition are more vague, and I'm not sure who specifically he's talking about, but "extreme liberality taken with some other members of the board despite their constant violations of the ToS"?  I don't know which posters specifically that he's talking about, but I don't think Forum Community is the worst offender in terms of boards where the moderation is too lax.  Inks is hardly "lax" in infracting compared to some of the other boards.  Most of the criticism of Inks has been that he moderates too aggressively, not too leniently.

Apparently they haven't noticed that now that I'm working 65 hours a week, I'm hardly on the forum, let alone actively moderating.  Other than weighing in on a couple mod issues and keeping up with Atlasia, I'm not doing much.

As someone who's supported past "efforts" (and I use that term loosely) to demod Inks, I don't see why everyone is asking for this now.  As Morden said, the complaint is usually that he's too aggressive in his moderation style, but he's hardly done anything in the past month or so.

I can't find any reason to actually do this. The Mods are a community and Inks isn't the heart of darkness or something like that. Demodding him won't do much to actually change hearts and minds.

Look, I've never been a moderator, but, I imagine, it must be a fairly difficult job; particularly on a forum like Atlas which seems to be relatively lightly modded, but, at the same time, is a political forum, thus offering up many opportunities for hurtful and annoying behaviour. I mean, I think Inks should be 'demodded' if he was found to be breaking the terms of service himself, or simply failing to do anything at all. But I personally think he's simply a fallible human (like the rest of us) doing his best at a job for which he recieves no salary and precious little thanks. Of course, he's going to make mistakes or undertake unpopular actions from time to time, but I'm sure he's not the only moderator who does that (this isn't a criticism of other moderators by the way). I think he gets a little too much criticism.
