Iran sponsors terrorism.  People are hurt by it.  They sue.  They win.  Iran refuses to pay.  The people hurt by the terrorism look for other ways to collect.  This is one of those ways.

The recent terrorist events in the middle east are by groups that Iran strongly opposes.

Let's ignore the purely legal, ethical and moral aspects here.

This is pretty damn dumb, USA and to lesser extent all other liberal democratic states around the world benefit from a free and universal internet (and America also benefit from being the centre of it). By doing things like this USA increase the risk of a balkanised internet. The big loser in this are American internet companies which lose access to foreign markets, but also the American government for whom it will be harder to push their soft power.

I am stunned that there is any adverse reaction to this.........Iran sponsored TERRORISM....people are dead- innocent people- due to their actions. They deserve the same treament, not merely taking away their website, yet some of you people act as though we are nuking Tehran

You know if USA nuked Tehran the reaction would be quite different, as for the whole innocent people are dead, I'm rather sure that state sponsored violence from Washington have cost more human lives than state sponsored violence from Tehrans side.

Of course my problem with this is that it's counter-productive and it may hurt USA more than Iran.

this is seizing the websites and ip's of everyone in iran, not just the government or whatever.

Just posting to ask: How does this private organization (ICANN) get any actual authority over the entire internet, globally?

Or is this just pissing in the wind for more or less publicity purposes?
