In 1959, the Alabama State Senate resolved that Justice Hugo Black's remains must never be buried in "Alabama's sacred soil".

When he died in 1971, Black was buried at Arlington National Cemetery, though I don't know whether the State Senate resolution could have prevented his burial in his home state, if such funeral was planned.

That's an extreme case of being "disowned" by his own state.

I guess it was due to the fact that he was a key player in numerous Supreme Court decisions that repudiated the doctrine of Jim Crow segregation.
