Bastard kids just don't like work.  For shame, this generation of ours.

Well I'm certainly for making it as safe as possible for the kids and I'm not a fan of 7 year olds in the fields but kids working on a farm has gone on since farms have existed.  It's one of the few areas of gummit that's lightly regulated though......interesting.

Yes, with all the proper caveats.  Obviously 11 year olds working 13 hour days and then giving all the money to their parents is wrong.

There's nothing wrong with it because it teaches kids character and hard work. Our grandparents' generations weren't afraid of hard work and they shouldn't be either. As for the tobacco issue, what would the left have to say about children working with marijuana? I'm sure they'd all be fine with it.

Wow, thanks Scott. I always wondered why some of those rural counties southeast of Raleigh had such a high Hispanic presence:

I did chores around the house as a kid.  That's fine.  Of course, all other child labor should be strictly banned.  (Not a terrible)

Children really shouldn't be in any tobacco farm, let alone permitted to work on them (as unrealistic as that is). The fields are doused with pesticides and the cut leaves themselves are toxic. Even the barns where the leaves are dried are filled with ash and resin.

If it's a family farm then yes, but the same labor laws should apply as elsewhere.

Yes, and the harvesting of the leaves is carcinogenic as well (repeated and continued handling of the leaves causes nicotine and tar absorption).  The question isn't whether children should be working with tobacco; should adults be doing that, either?  Even if you paid them a proper living wage with appropriate overtime penalties, it looks like very dangerous work.
