Wouldn't it have been prudent if at least some aspect of the discussion over whether or not to redraft had occured in public? Tongue

Granted I know not which five it was but certainly if it was the stark pro/anti members on either side, then of course it would be rather difficult to find consensus in a redraft. Surely the presence of six ayes, including a member of the Labor party as well as shua, who is hardly a pro-war inteventionist by any means, would indicate that desire for changes extends far beyond just one Senator, no?

Ironically I agree with three, but as for point four, isn't training "foreign military" in the absence of the private side, potentially in our interest? What about joint exercises with Britain, are they banned by this for instance? Or Canada even who would have an interest in defending common borders and body's of water from any number of threats? If it is efficent and cheaper to have a base solely devoted for such purposes, why should it be banned?

Actually, I found myself looking at An Actual End to Imperialism Act several times, and I really couldn't offer a rewrite that substantially changed it. That's what I mean.

Joint exercises with Great Britain would not be banned, and neither are coalitions. What's banned is to set up a base in a foreign country whose purpose is to train paramilitary forces (i.e., to overthrow strongmen, etc.).

Why was bases solely for training foreign military listed seperate from paramilitary as thus banned also then in your initial post?

Yes, we can proceed with the vote.

Also this needs to be placed into the veto override slot, since we are taking that route.

I must say this puts me in a hell of a bind. I like portions of the law in question on the other hand I think it needs to be scaled back to a certain extent. No we have to make a one or the other decision and neither is really desirable from my perspective.

Thanks a bunch, dear Edward. Tongue

Senators, before starting a vote, just to be clear:
Quote
You must be logged in to read this quote.
So, if you vote "Abstain", this will be like you have voted Nay. If you miss the vote, same thing.

(If I have understood)

Senators,  a vote in now open, please vote AYE, NAY or Abstain/

This has enough votes to fail.
Senators, you have 24 hours to change your vote.

The results of the vote:
Aye (4): Senator Goldwater, Senator Alfred F. Jones, Senator shua, Senator North Carolina Yankee
Nay (4): Senator TNF, Senator Griffin, Senator bore, Senator Tyrion
Non Voting (2): Senator DC, Senator Lumine

DemPGH's veto fails to be overriden.
I, Windjammer, president of the senate, certify these results are accurate

I would like to thank the Senate for sustaining the far-sighted and bold veto of this reactionary piece of legislation by our esteemed President.

Well, disappointed as I am on the outcome of this after the Senate passed the bill I certainly don't plan to give up on my efforts, so as I said on my office thread I'll be glad to continue this debate in the following months with other pieces of legislation. Perhaps someday we will get rid of this ludicrous bill...
