He was passed over in 1996, 2000, and 2008 because of his pro-choice views. The GOP base won't allow it. He can swing the Rust Belt region to the GOP, and is experienced to be vice president on day one. Thoughts?

I can say that nobody who was even under consideration in 1996 will be in 2016.

Brian Sandoval would probably make more sense than Ridge.  Sandoval would put Hispanics and Nevada in play for the GOP. Although it is hard to imagine the GOP nominating a pro-choice VP.  Since it could result in a third party challenge from the religious-right.

Why would a 70 year old be chosen as a VP?

No, Ridge will not be on the GOP ticket; the main strike against him is that he is pro-choice. While that political position might not automatically rule out an individual for the Republican vice-presidential nomination, a pro-choice pick will have to bring something special to the table, like Condi or Brian Sandoval.

I'd like to draw attention to the incongruity between the thread title and the poll question.

There is a major difference between "Can you say that Tom Ridge will not be on the GOP ticket?" and "Will Former Pennsylvania governor and DHS Secretary Tom Ridge be on the GOP ticket as a vice presidential running mate?"

For pretty much anyone who will be considered a potential running mate, there is the possibility that they will be chosen and the possibility that they won't be chosen.

Ridge is unlikely to be selected as a running mate although it may be possible if a younger nominee benefits significantly with the addition of an elder statesman from Pennsylvania to the ticket.

No, who said he would? He'll be 70, hasn't held elected office in years, and was in George W. Bush's cabinet.

Just like how Palin did not put women in play for the GOP, Sandoval will not put hispanics in play --although he may put Nevada in the GOP column.

No.  He's been out of politics too long, and the SoCons wouldn't be happy with him because he's prochoice.
