HC

And yet more proof that it does matter whether or not a Republican or a Democrat is president.
The court ruled unanimously to abolish buffer zones

That's an incredibly minor issue (and the Court still allowed for plenty of other restrictions incidentally) compared to say the ruling on the ACA individual mandate or the Citizens United ruling.

That's pretty minor compared to CU, DOMA, ACA, VRA...

I do like the implication that Ginsburg, Sotomayor, etc. are as bad as the unholy Roberts/Scalia/Alito axis because ARE BUFFER ZONES

A strange picture of what happens when balance of power is held by a slightly hackish liberal Republican.

A strange tragic picture of what happens when balance of power is held by a slightly hackish liberal Republican five arch-conservative, corporatist political hacks in black robes who should all be impeached immediately.

Oh please, did Occupy write that for you or something? Kennedy is hardly an arch-conservative and Roberts isn't really one either although he is actually a conservative.

HC, given it's the most conservative court in the past 100 years.

However, some of the reactions from leftists in this thread are way over the top.

Kennedy is basically a conservative who likes gays and doesn't entirely hate civil liberties and abortion. On all issues involving government regulation of the economy (including Obamacare!), he's been a reliable conservative vote.

Kennedy is a dystopian Randist and a corporatist political hack in a black robe who should be impeached immediately, better?  As for Roberts, with all due respect, the fact that he doesn't seem like more than a generic and inoffensive conservative to you speaks more to how far to the right of the mainstream you are than it does to any so-called moderation on Roberts' part.

Every term, they move the country a little to the right. On the other hand, I have to give them some credit for judgments that aren't as far-reaching as they might be if they were just "super legislators." So I guess they could be a lot worse, but I'm definitely not a fan, and I really hope one of the conservative five retires soon.

Overall, HC. If it weren't for Alito replacing O'Connor, it probably would've been better than the Rehnquist Court.

With that said, there are quite a few opinions that have been very good. For the most part, I do like the Court's jurisprudence on the Fourth, Sixth, and Eighth Amendments.

Yeah, O'Connor's retirement has been a true tragedy for the Court.

Yeah, O'Connor's retirement has been a true tragedy for the Court.

The tragedy is even worse when you consider that she had retired to spend more time her husband, whose Alzheimer's shortly thereafter reached the point that he had forgotten her (I think within a year of her retirement). Otherwise, she'd very likely still be on the Court.
