Romney. I doubt he would've even repealed Obamacare.

Actually, wasn't there a blueprint for a "Romney transition site" (lol) that came out after he lost, and on it was plans to dismantle the ACA through the executive branch?

Somehow it got on the web for a few hours IIRC Tongue. I also remember a George Pataki 2012 website going up for a few days before he announced he wasn't running-I still wonder what made him change his mind.

McCain in '08.  He would've had a Dem Congress and would've been more competent than Romney.

Maybe I'm wrong, but Romney doesn't come off to me as the type who would, say, go to war with ten different countries with a single executive order, so I guess I'd pick him narrowly.  At least with Romney we'd have some Obama-era accomplishments on the books, though most of them probably would've been done away with one way or another.

It's also worth considering how the 2010 midterms would have gone. I think it would have been a hideous result for the Republicans, cementing the Democratic Majorities in Congress and giving Democrats considerable power over redistricting. I wouldn't even rule out the possibility of McCain having stood down after one term. Even so, I don't think McCain working with a Democratic Congress would've been all that bad. I think Romney with a Republican Congress would have been disastrous, particularly with what the Republican Party has become in recent years.

McCain in 2008 would probably have resulted in the OWS protesters having live ammunition fired into them instead of rubber bullets.
