More proof of psychological projection.

Can you name an actual terrorist act committed by the SC movement?

How does that apply to this situation? What do you believe that LePage is projecting?

The statement wasn't intended to be literal, but the Tea Party in general has been very eager to accuse Obama and other Democrats of links to terrorist organizations or sympathy for them,.

I already read that. All I see is a ton of people charged with tax fraud.

The SC is not an organized movement. You can't call an adherent of a fanciful ideology terrorist when no organized terrorist structure exists….unlike, say, the Weather Underground (I’m joking of course, I don’t see Obama’s association with Bill Ayers as something worth noting).

I have to agree with this.  Just because you have crazy ideas, that doesn't mean you're responsible for the behavior of people with similar crazy ideas.  Just because you're friends or acquaintances with another person, you're not responsible for their behavior.

Republicans rather are cultivating the support of crackpots and mentally ill people.  That's their offense.  It's like if Cynthia McKinney was a mainstream Democrat.

I certainly agree that LePage meeting with these people is not a wise decision.

Read closer. Shooting cops arguable falls under that definition.

If you're a member of a party that's convinced Obama is an al-Qaeda Manchurian Candidate because he once met Bill Ayers at a party, you have no business going near anyone who is even tangentially related to terrorism.

Can we not extend the term "terrorist" to anybody who is associated with something that makes the FBI uncomfortable?

Oldies, I realize that Salon is a liberal publication, and likewise you're rarely good at critical analysis, but can you cite a single part of that article that actually reflects mere political bias as opposed to accurately reporting that happens to be unfavorable to a Republican (one with a long documented history of overt sympathy for extremism no less)? I'll wait for your answer.

Not when they're specifically designated as a terrorist organization...

By whom? I mean, if the FBI thinks the SC movement is a terrorist organization and you take their word for it, then you should also designate Martin Luther King as a terrorist. The same logic applies.

Aside from the fact that I think the FBI is probably too promiscuous with their labels (I mean, come on, Food Not Bombs?) from what I can tell there is no actual organization called "Sovereign Citizens" and what the FBI has said is that they are concerned about extremists in the movement.

Um, no.

Just because a movement lacks a hierarchy doesn't mean it can't be classified as a movement.  If the Governor of Maine is conversing with people who apparently sympathize with that movement, then it's no better than Barack Obama having a meeting with members of the Black Panther Party.

Wouldn't the SC having a cohesive organisational structure and hierarchy be antithetical to what their ideologies hold in common at the core? Of course they're not going to be interdependent. It would violate their adorable "sovereignty."

Which doesn't disclude them from loosely affiliating with each other and us using a term to reference them. Still feels unfair to call them all "terrorists." It would be more accurate to call them parasites and delusional narcissists.

In any case a public official associating with them is.. bizarre, to say the least. I would question the integrity of anyone who would while a public servant.
